I can’t take the narration

I’m giving the story the benefit of the doubt. It seems to ramble often. However, this may be due to insufferable narration. Like the critic in the story says, she sounds like a constantly whining child. I kept putting this story aside whenever it became too unbearable. But mama didn’t raise a quitter.

The narrator was great!

I liked the story a lot. I'm not sure how I felt about the Christian aspects of the story. They seemed sort of like they were tucked in . Other than that, I enjoyed they book, although I was disappointed to hear about her parents. The author did a good job of not giving it a regular storybook ending.

This book would have been good, except for all the references to god and gods will. Really didn’t enhance the story and only viable for those who are heavily religious and believe that someone else controls our lives - which I do not.

Captivating!

Such a novel story. I loved the way everything unfolds. I didn't know what to expect but I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Pleasantly surprised

I enjoyed the story line and the reader. Parts of the book could’ve been a little shorter and I would’ve appreciated a bit longer ending but overall I was happy with the book. Yes, I was a bit surprised by the amount of references to God, mostly because it seemed sudden and then continuous. It didn’t offend me though. And I personally do believe that God helps us, although I don’t go out of my way to read religious books. If you enjoy a good story line with a few surprising twists, then you will most likely enjoy this book. If you are looking for steamy sex scenes and continuous bad behavior, this is absolutely not the book for you. 😁

stunning story

We very much enjoyed this amazing faith based story, writing is beautiful and excellent voice performance.

A proper victorian era romance

This book was fine for me. The story is entertaining, the characters interesting but I was very often trown out of it by the religious quotes and reflections. The h come out as a bit of a biggot while the character's spirituality plays virtually no role in the plot or indeed the story. The books makes a valiant try at sticking to a victorian/Edwardian era style but falls short. Though the h is an author under a male pen name, it glosses over what it meant for a gentlewoman to become an author in those times.
Gender roles were already shifting sure but this book acts as if it was widely accepted for a woman to be an author for one, and for a unmarried gentry woman who grew up in depter's prison, to write this particular types of books, be accepted back into her noble family, not questioned on her many blunders, despite the fact this was just not how thing worked. The book is an entertaining romance set with a somewhat historical background.
If someone wants to write a proper (clean) historical romance, fine but they should at least understand what the historical context was and how it will inevitably impact the story and limitate the characters options.
This book is entertaining if you have nothing better to read, but I would rather go back to one of Austen's book than listen to this one again.

This is an amazing book, an all-time favorite. I struggled a bit for clarity in the beginning but so glad I stuck with it until the surprise at the end
