Little Jamey, 2½ years old, is placed with experienced foster carer, Cathy Glass, as an emergency.

The police and social services have no choice but to remove two-year-old Jamey from home after his mother leaves him alone all night to go out partying.

When he first arrives with foster carer Cathy Glass, he is scared, hungry and withdrawn, craving the affection he has been denied for so long. He is small for his age and unsteady on his feet – a result of being left for long periods in his cot.

Cathy and her family find Jamey very easy to love, but as he settles in and makes progress, a new threat emerges. Coronavirus and lockdown change everything.

I love the way this author writes. Sometimes I forget that it’s not a movie because I can see everything so clearly in my mind. You almost feel like you know these people if you start from the first book. I will be so sad when the last book drops.

Best yet!

I love all of your books and this one was heart breaking like most. I'm happy the ending was a happy one but was a bit annoyed about ur support/message about George Floyd. Yes he was killed by a "White" police officer but he was a hardened criminal with a long history of drug use and violent crimes. He once held a gun to the stomach of a pregnant woman. He resisted arrest and wouldn't cooperate with the officers.. BLM is a terrorist group who burned down cities and murdered innocent people. No mention of that in your story. Please do all your readers a favor and leave out politics.

Politics not welcome

I must have listened to nearly all of this author's books, and I have thoroughly loved them all. This one was excellently narrated as always. One of the things that threw me a bit was the overly dramatic mention and near-tribute to George Floyd. It seemed out of context and completely unnecessary. Perhaps the author needs to acquaint herself with some more in-depth details from that case.

Not Her Best But Still Good

I believe the book’s cover is misleading as the child depicted is several years beyond a 2-year-old toddler but other than my (admittedly) petty comment, the rest of this book is spot-on classic Cathy Glass — a warm and wise excellent carer in the UK fostering system. Likewise, Denica Fairman delivers this unfolding tale of little Jamey with her usual narration charm and clear enunciation.

This true story centres around the fact that a youngster is taken from his disorganized and neglectful, drug-addicted alcoholic mother by the child welfare system and is assigned to Ms. Glass to help him grow and thrive. His speech is delayed and his body under-developed mainly because for much of his two years, he has lingered in a urine-soaked cot. He did visit his caring Aunt occasionally but it has yet to be decided through the courts if she is an appropriate legal guardian for Jamey. Suddenly, the Coronavirus/Omicron virus extends to and thru the UK and this throws an additional monkey wrench into the unsettled goings-on in the child’s lifestyle!

From medical checkups we see that Jamey begins a growth spurt by exercising muscles, developing vocabulary etc. and from new life experiences which embolden him to express himself. He blossoms under Cathy’s outpouring of affection despite the Coronavirus pandemic spreading globally. Once courts eventually decide where the child should be placed permanently, Cathy does mention that she will miss him dreadfully: “But how could I have stopped from loving him?” she asks the reader … much like the talented crooner Enya asks “How Can I Keep from Singing?” Still, it’s great to notice that Cathy continues to work through her own grieving (from the recent death of her beloved mother) by bestowing onto others the healing devotion once instilled into her by the very same benevolent Mum. Keep it up, Cathy, and moving forward? May you and Jamey continue to succeed, to flourish.

Lacey was so rude to Cathy and doesn’t deserve Jamey. I don’t think Cathy shouldn’t judge American police on George Floyd incident as people in other countries know the situation in America

Wish Jamey could stay with Cathy
