Cathy, his carer, encourages Jackson to talk about what has happened to his family, but he just won’t engage. His actions continue to test and worry everyone.

Omg. Very rich story with happy and tragic ending. But Cathy’s mom died in peace without suffering surrounded by her family

Surprise ending

I’m heartbroken by the ending but the rest of the story is so intriguing, as usual. I’ve read nearly all of her books at this point and I’ve never been disappointed. My only negative is that I can frequently hear the narrator swallowing hard and, as someone who suffers with Misophonia, it’s incredibly distracting.

Cathy Glass does it again!

Yet again Cathy Glass has written a brilliant book. Filled with several twists and turns, enough to keep me reading almost non-stop until I had finished it. The ending comes rather suddenly and is upsetting in a number of ways. Well done Cathy, you are doing a wonderful job both with your writing and fostering. Big thanks to the narrator as well, I rather like when the same narrator does all the books from the one author, and all of Cathy's books are narrated just right.

Another great book

I really enjoy the way Cathy tells her story. Very touching and heartfelt. Inspiring

The story was the continuation and completion of Tilly’s story (begun in the previous book), and the story of a new child, Jackson. It had some happy moments, some wonderful ones, a particularly sad one, but it felt different than any of her others. While the foster children played a big part, I felt like they were a little less of the focus than usual. This book felt very core-family oriented with Paula, Lucy and her partner, Adrian and his partner, Cathy, and her mother all playing larger parts.

Cathy is always firm with the kids she fosters, but I’ve never enjoyed how the narrator reads “firm” as “yelling”. This book has more than the usual amount of Cathy being firm, and the narrator’s voicing of her makes her sound really horrible and out of control. If this was the only Glass book you’d read, you would come away thinking she was inappropriate person to foster abused kids!
When I read this again I will use text-to-speech.

Narrator interpreted firmness as yelling :(
