Publisher's summary

In The Eye of God, a Sigma Force novel, New York Times best-selling author James Rollins delivers an apocalyptic vision of a future predicted by the distant past.

In the wilds of Mongolia, a research satellite has crashed, triggering an explosive search for its valuable cargo: a code-black physics project connected to the study of dark energy...and a shocking image of the eastern seaboard of the United States in utter ruin.

At the Vatican, a package arrives containing two strange artifacts: a skull scrawled with ancient Aramaic and a tome bound in human skin. DNA evidence reveals that both came from the same body: the long-dead Mongol king Genghis Khan.

Commander Gray Pierce and Sigma Force set out to discover a truth tied to the fall of the Roman Empire, to a mystery going back to the birth of Christianity, and to a weapon hidden for centuries that holds the fate of humanity.

narrator! could not go beyond

the narrator is Horrible. what happened. why change the narrator? I have listened to all the previous books of the sigma force serie. this is just unpalatable. I can not even get into the story. Baskous should find another job that does not requires talent like "you have reached the first floor" or "you may proceed to next available teller". the book is expensive to listen too and this is not even worth it if free

Narrator.....

This story was fine, maybe not as to the edge as some of the previous novels. What put me off was the narrator, who at times represented the characters in such a contrived manner, that he actually diminished the story for me.

Did James Rollins hire a ghost writer?

What did you like best about The Eye of God? What did you like least?

Not a lot that I liked about this book. I loved the previous versions. This one is not written in the same voice and seems to move from tone to tone. It appears to have been pieced together by at least two writers.

If you’ve listened to books by James Rollins before, how does this one compare?

I have listened to many books by James Rollins before and this is the worst hands down. The tone and voice of the writer changes frequently and appears to have been written by more than one person. At times there are glimpses of Rollins' writing style but it is lost again quickyl

What didn’t you like about Christian Baskous’s performance?

Everything. He distracts from the story but I wonder if that wasn't intentional since the writing is disjointed as well. Christian Baskous is monochromatic and dull and his voices would have been better off left out. Each person sounds relatively the same to the others making it difficult to follow.

Do you think The Eye of God needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Not if it is written as this one or read by this performer.

Always fun to read

I enjoy Rollins characters; they are folks I could invite home and I miss them when the book's over. Story line is creative with a foot in facts with a good measure of fantasy.

The narrator in this book took a few hours to get used to. He tried too hard to do foreign accents so most foreigners sounded like they were Asian but raised in Italy. He improved toward the end or I got accustomed to him.

Poor narration

So far, I have listened to all the Sigma Force series up to this point. This narration was very disappointing. I am only halfway through and I am hoping that this is the only one Baskous narrates. His "accents" are ridiculous. His Italian accents sound almost Jamaican and his Asian accents are offensive caricatures of Asians.

Good story, bad performance.

I finished it. The story was good and a good addition to the series. The performance was pretty bad, but only because of the various accents attempted. Some characters went from Asian to Hispanic and back again between scenes. I blame whoever made the decision to change up narrators.

Not one of the better ones

I have really enjoyed this series up until this book. Two main issues - 1) the narrator is not right for this book and 2) there are lots of errors in how things really happen when it comes to tactical items and a few of the locations are incorrectly described.

Main thing is the narration, just took away from all the characters and storyline of the series.

Ruined what could've been a great listen.

First let me start off with this, I listened to the Sanguine Series and loved it, which was also narrated by Christian Baskous. But I'm completely shocked at how horrible of a narration he gave to this book.

I don't understand why he constantly sped up, slowed down, accented unimportant words, gave inflection when their shouldn't have been, etc. etc. The conversation between characters was agonizing. No emotion. No normalcy. No passion. The only reason I finished this book was because I'm a fan of the series and James Rollins.

new narrator sucks

The story is good but the narrator is terrible. His pronunciation of certain words is strange, he pauses and draws out words like he got stuck and needs a second to catch up. Don't know why the replaced Peter Fernandez with this guy. not sure if I can keep going with the series because he is the narrator for the rest of these books.

Agreed - the narrator is awful

Why isn’t it Peter Jay Fernandez? Christian Baskous does not do accents well at all. I love listening to this series but the new narrator is ruining it for me. Get Peter back!! Or if you’re going to change go with Scott Brick!

As for the story, it as usual is good! I enjoy historical fiction James Rollins does this well.
