Publisher's summary

Few can rival attorney Andy Carpenter's affection for golden retrievers, especially his own beloved Tara. After he astonishes a New Jersey courtroom by successfully appealing another golden's death sentence, Andy discovers that this gentle dog is a key witness to a murder that took place five years before. Andy pushes the boundaries of the law even further as he struggles to free an innocent man by convincing an incredulous jury to take canine testimony seriously. It will take all the tricks Andy's fertile mind can conceive to get to the bottom of a remarkable chain of impersonations and murder, and to save a dog's life - and his own - in the process.

A very enjoyable time spent

This was the first book by this author that I have listened to. It was fun, enjoyable, and very entertaining. I could not anticipate where the plot was going until it was neatly wrapped up at the end. We drove from Alabama to Oklahoma listening and were sorry that the story line had to come to an end.

Very Entertaining

I have "read" all of David Rosenfelt's books and they are all wonderful. Grover Gardner is Andy Carpenter. You can't miss on any of them!

I hope there are many more adventures of Andy Carpenter and his friends.

Just plain fun

This is the most fun series. Love the characters and the snappy dialogue. Just be sure to start with the first book in the series--Open and Shut

Heart warming story

If you could sum up Play Dead in three words, what would they be?

Got to listen!

What did you like best about this story?

The way the story was told, slowly painting the picture each characters history relating to the total package of the story. Not saying the story was slow at all. It was a wonderfully paced story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but had to leave car to go into work...darn it!

Any additional comments?

Love this author. Not just a "dog" story. Much more involved in each characters past, present and future. It ended as I wanted it to, yet it didn't end as I wanted it to.

As usual Grover presents Andy Carpenter just the way David Rosenfelt meant. Humerous and depth.

" Bad Guys with Machetes and Bazookas"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, but you must be in the mood to listen for details of humor and sarcasm as these are simple but uplifting stories/series.

What did you like best about this story?

I made the mistake of starting in the middle of this series due to book covers of dogs. This one and the other 2 I purchased have dogs, yes, but they just added goodness to the stories. They are in this series, but they are not the focus. These are feel good stories period. I normally use the new 1.25x speed, but with this series, I had to go back to standard speed or I would miss the sarcasm. These are clever stories, with a couple of mysteries involved in each story.

What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?

At first I didn't like him as his voice makes our hero seem much older. However, with all the sarcasm, he brings it off well. In this series, he matches the author's intent. I don't feel compelled to seek his other work, but will buy most of this series as he is Andy!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes, as this series just makes you feel good. However, you can't be multi tasking like reading a cooking recipe or you will miss the humor. This is a great series for taking a long walk or drive.
