Publisher's summary

Andy Carpenter gains possession of an adorable Bernese puppy whose owner was brutally murdered. Few can rival Andy's affection for dogs, and he will do whatever it takes to insure that this little pup doesn't fall into the wrong hands. However, his playful new friend is valued by several people, many of whom are willing to resort to violence to get what they want.

It will take more than Andy's usual courtroom theatrics to save this dog, including a little help from his beloved Golden Retriever, Tara. Andy soon discovers that anyone around him is in danger, including his longtime girlfriend, Laurie, and he will have to muster all of his wits to save those he holds most dear.

David Rosenfelt, a native of Paterson, New Jersey, is a graduate of NYU. He was the former marketing president for Tri-Star Pictures before becoming a writer of novels and screenplays. Dog-lovers, rejoice!

I only recently learned to appreciate dogs, since I love cats better; but, all the same, I recommend Mr. Rosenfelt's legal thrillers, all of which have dogs as protagonists. "New Tricks" features a darling puppy, a grouchy judge, and a wealthy, dog-loving attorney. That attorney, Andy Carpenter, has an enviable, fun, long-distance, relationship with his girlfriend, who plays a prominent role in this book. We end up rooting for the relationship, as well as the dog. Although I don't like Grover Gardner's voice as much as some of the other actors who narrate audiobooks, I have to admit he does a pretty good job reading the story.

new tricks delivers

Always laughing out loud as I listen to this series--this is one of the funniest! Always a completely different plot. Love the characters, Always like the reader, Grover Gardner is great. Hate books when the reader has a heavy accent or annoying voice.

Just plain fun and enjoyable.. perfect narration - all good. Again, only complaint is the stories are a little short... But whats there is choice.

Witty, Sarcastic, Loveable!

If you could sum up New Tricks in three words, what would they be?

David Rosenfelt does it again. The Andy Carpenter character is hilarious.

What other book might you compare New Tricks to and why?

The whole series is fantastic. I can't wait for number 10.

What does Grover Gardner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's the reason the audio book is so enjoyable. Next to Lorelie King, he's the best narrator I've listened to.

Another Great Book in the Andy Carpenter Series

What made the experience of listening to New Tricks the most enjoyable?

Grover Gardner is an excellent reader - he IS Andy Carpenter! The characters are well developed and the dialogue is so funny, particularly Andy's interactions with Marcus, his part time investigator/body guard.

What other book might you compare New Tricks to and why?

Any of the other books in the Andy Carpenter series. I like the consistency.

What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?

Grover Gardner really brings the characters to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was stunned when one of the main characters was shot; I was actually worried as though the character were a real person!

Any additional comments?

If you like a clever story with funny, human characters, read any of the Andy Carpenter series by David Rosenfelt.
