Publisher's Summary

Trading in Texas heat for Maine's tangy salt air, Natalie Barnes risked it all to buy the Gray Whale Inn, a quaint bed and breakfast on Cranberry Island. She adores whipping up buttery muffins and other rich breakfast treats for her guests until Bernard Katz checks in. The overbearing land developer plans to build a resort next door where an endangered colony of black-chinned terns is nesting. Worried about the birds, the inevitable transformation of the sleepy fishing community, and her livelihood, Natalie takes a public stand against the project. But the town board sides with Katz. Just when it seems like things can't get any worse, Natalie finds Katz dead. Now the police and much of the town think she's guilty. Can Natalie track down the true killer before she's hauled off to jail...or becomes the next victim?

    "Not for me"

This is a slow moving novel with an annoying lead character. Don't waste your time.

    "OK.........but the narrator"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The book was OK. It was a predictable but entertaining story. But the narrator was tough. She had a very difficult time, it sounded like it was a lot of work for her to speak clearly & her voice sounded too old for the character. I'd gauge the character was supposed to be in her 40's but the narrator sounded more like 60's. Her pronunciation was tough......she said stuff like "sh-oc-o-late chip cookies" which was actually said quite often throughout the book.........there was a lot of SH for the CH sound and it was as if she was adding syllables to words. Not my favorite narrator.

    "Couldn't finish"

The story seems okay but the narrator has no expression in her voice. It may as well have been read by my computer text to voice.

    "Disappointed "
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I did not like the main character of this novel. If it was the author's intent for the reader to dislike the main character she did a great job. That being said, if the reader likes characters that don't think things through and keep making stupid choices... they will like the book. I am going to suffer though to the end just to see how she gets out of it.

Would you ever listen to anything by Karen MacInerney again?

    NO

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Talmadge Ragan?

    That would not have helped

What character would you cut from Murder on the Rocks?

    The main one

"Slow to start, but keeps you have guessing."

Slow to start but later Kent wondering who had "done it." was difficult to imagine every character. The narrator was good but had a slight lisp at times as if I she were wearing a retainer.
