I have three confessions to make:

1. I’ve got the scar of gunshot on my forehead.

2. I don’t remember an entire year of my life.

3. My name is Kellen Adams…and that’s half a lie.

Girl running…from a year she can’t remember, from a husband she prays is dead, from homelessness and fear. Tough, capable Kellen Adams takes a job as assistant manager of a remote vacation resort on the North Pacific Coast. There amid the towering storms and the lashing waves, she hopes to find sanctuary. But when she discovers a woman’s dead and mutilated body, she’s soon trying to keep her own secrets while investigating first one murder…then another.

Now every guest and employee is a suspect. Every friendly face a mask. Every kind word a lie. Kellen’s driven to defend her job, her friends and the place she’s come to call home. Yet she wonders—with the scar of a gunshot on her forehead and amnesia that leaves her unsure of her own past—could the killer be staring her in the face?

“Christina Dodd reinvents the romantic thriller. Her signature style—edgy, intense, twisty, emotional—leaves you breathless from first page to last. Readers who enjoy Nora Roberts will devour Dodd’s electrifying novels.”

Flip flops a little bit but a very good Story

I had to back up and relisten to parts where I thought I had missed some of the facts that were to have advance the plot, but there weren’t any. Not the best mystery since I really didn’t care to try to figure who the thief was. Just wanted it to hurry up and end.

Confusing

It does not matter if you are reading the book or listening to the audio version the chronology was very hard to follow. The jumps from past to present were necessary to the story development but it was very confusing. It would take a couple minutes with each jump to figure out if you were in the past or the present. Simply stating the month and year when in the past and “present day” with each jump would have made the transition completely seamless. I gave the story a 4 star rating because of that omission.

Vanessa Johansson is a great narrator and gave a flawless performance.

A little confusing but very good

The story keeps you listening, but I wish they had multiple narrators to mimic the different characters.

Liked the story, not fond of the narration

You have to totally suspend all belief to enjoy this book. Seriously. And the narrator doesn’t do it any favors. She had a flat affect which makes the main character unlikeable. This is a fluff read. Not serious. And so cheesy. But it entertained me enough that I finished it. Wouldn’t listen to again.

Cheesy and unrealistic
