Publisher's Summary

"A twisty, jet-fueled thriller... Don’t miss it!" (Lisa Gardner)

Packed with the electrifying pacing and pulse-pounding suspense of Harlan Coben and Lisa Gardner, a thrilling debut about a mother desperate to find the connections between her missing husband and a deadly stalker who knows too much about her own dark family history.

Driving home one rainy night, Cassie Larkin sees a man and woman fighting on the side of the road. After calling 911, the veterinarian makes a split-second decision that will throw her sedate suburban life into chaos. Against all reason and advice, she gets out of her minivan and chases after the violent man, trying to help his victim. When Cassie physically tries to stop him, he suddenly turns on her and spits out an ominous threat: "Let her die, and I’ll let you live."

A veterinarian trained to heal, Cassie can’t let the woman die. But while she’s examining the unconscious victim, the attacker steals her car. Now he has her name. Her address. And he knows about her children. Though they warn her to be careful, the police assure her that the perpetrator - a criminal named Carver Sweet - won’t get near her. Cassie isn’t so sure.

The next day - Halloween - her husband disappears while trick-or-treating with their six-year-old daughter. Are these disturbing events a coincidence or the beginning of a horrifying nightmare? Her husband has been growing distant - is it possible he’s become involved with another woman? Is Cassie’s confrontation with the road-side attacker connected to her husband’s disappearance? With all these questions swirling in her mind Cassie can trust no one, maybe not even herself. The only thing she knows for sure is that she can’t sit back while the people she loves are in danger.

As she desperately searches for answers, Cassie discovers that nothing is as random as it seems, and that she is more than willing to fight - to go the most terrifying extremes - to save her family and her marriage.

Crazy Stuff

I have conflicted feelings about this story. One minute it was suspenseful and great, the next minute I'm rolling my eyes. Too many unnecessary words, and loose ends at the finish. I'm disappointed that I used a credit.

Confusing

Too much going on. Convoluted story line. Explanations left a lot to be desired. Confusing.

Ehh

I feel like the author tries a little too hard in this novel. She introduces too many plot twists and it's really hard to keep them straight. Nothing seems to be connected until the end. Also, the character development was lacking (not to mention the main character was not very likable). Not my favorite, but not terrible.

NO BAD DEED was a GOOD READ!

Terrific new author debut accompanied by a superb narration.

The first half of the book was very, very, very suspenseful and impossible to put down.

The last portion of the book, however, was disjointed and sometimes hard to follow. (I listened to the final portion of the book twice and still found it hard to follow!) The book had many characters with multiple storylines and if the author kept things simple by sticking to the missing husband theme and eliminating at least two of the characters, this book would have earned 5 stars from me. I am avoiding giving specific examples to avoid spoilers.

This being said, I will be looking forward to listening to the author's next book!

Some good, some not to my taste ...

Excellent performance / good character development / somewhat complex and suspenseful plot. Not a fan of pathological behavior sub-genre or happily ever after endings, but other readers may enjoy. Good first novel.

Pretty good

One good or bad decision can really change the course of your life. Or send your life spiraling into a whirlwind. I'm a pretty big fan of stories that communicate this in an entertaining way.

This was a pretty good read (I listened on Audiobook). There were a few spots that seemed to go on and on with no real point. But overall, I liked that there were enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested in what is going on.

Sensational

Great story with lots of thrills and chills to keep you on the edge of your seat. The narration was fantastic as well! I would definitely reccomend this to everybody that loves a good mystery, or even those who just love a good listen.

Horribly convoluted plot.

Narration was ok.

Would not recommend the book.

I only listened to the whole thing on the chance it might get better, but it unfortunately did not.
