A Fantastic Twisted Read

Such a fantastic twisted read. Just from the start of the story I was captivated. The characters were wonderfully crafted. I was so intrigued with this story that I devoured it in one sitting determined to see where it went. The pacing was fantastic and had me on the edge of my seat. The banter between Josslyn and Alicia was entertaining. There was never a dull moment within this story. The narrators did a great job. As I listened I was able to picture their every word as if it were a show. I'm looking forward to what part 2 has in story.

Amazing!

This was such an amazing, twisty thriller! The narrator did a fantastic job with all of the characters. I would absolutely listen to the next books if they get narrated!

Very interesting concept

This book was awesome! Josslyn and Alicia are twins that were adopted at birth by two different families. Josslyn has always had Alicia's voice in her head. Her parents never told her she was adopted until she found out when helping clean out the attic. She then goes on a mission to locate Alicia and what follows is insane! I would recommend reading the prequel Bad Seed to get a better understanding of Josslyn and Alicia. I loved this.

TWISTS AND TURNS

I absolutely loved this audiobook! The narration brought the story to life, and the plot was full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Just when I thought I had it figured out, something unexpected would happen. It was so gripping, I didn’t want to stop listening! I can't wait for Book 2—I'm completely hooked!

My Dark Self

“My Dark Self” is a psychological thriller about 2 people in 1 body…a case of split personality. Both Josslyn & Alicia want to be the dominant personality & the twists & turns in the novel will keep you guessing as to which personality will win out in the end. Jessica Huntley portrays this mental health issue with sensitivity & grace. I listened to this book via Audible & the narrator really portrays the differences in their personalities as well as that of the other characters in this novel. She really makes the wonderful characters come to life. The jaw dropping surprise ending is a cliffhanger & while some readers are a fan of these types of endings, I prefer reading a novel that has some sort of closure at the end of it.

Addictively Dark and Entertaining!

I’m a huge fan of Jessica Huntley’s work because there’s really nothing I’ve come across of hers that I haven’t loved! After listening to the prequel, My Bad Self, I knew that learning more about the inextricably tied twins—Josslyn and Alicia—was going to be addictively entertaining, dark and suspenseful in My Dark Self. . . And it did not disappoint! Will be reading and listening to the rest of the series!

Their voices and conversations are still stuck in my head because of the unforgettable narration performed by the talented Charlie Albers!

Loved the voices, loved the drama.

I was very excited to start this book after listening to the short story My Bad Self, and I was not disappointed. There was a twist I didn’t see coming, and oh my goodness—it was so good. This does end on a cliffhanger, and there’s definitely more story to go, so I’ll be happy to dive into book two. I absolutely loved the narration—it was always clear when it was Josslyn or Alicia speaking. Overall, this was a highly enjoyable listen.

Dark and Chilling

Dark, chilling, and compulsively readable—Jessica Huntley crafted a psychological thriller that got under my skin.

Josslyn, a reserved vet, shared her body with Alicia—a violent alter ego determined to take control. As Josslyn searched for the truth about Alicia, an unseen stalker closed in, forced the two sides of her fractured self into a deadly battle for survival.

I really enjoyed the dual-voice narration between Josslyn and Alicia—it truly felt like two separate characters sharing one body. With Josslyn’s fragmented mind, she became an unreliable narrator, making it impossible to know what was real and what was imagined. Since most of the story is filtered through her perspective with Alicia breaking in, I felt trapped in their shared headspace, which made the tension even more intense and claustrophobic. I also loved how the dark, mysterious tone blended psychological horror—living with a dangerous voice in your head—with the mystery of Josslyn uncovering the truth about her parents and the secrets tied to her past. The novel’s psychological depth made it incredibly thought-provoking.

On top of that, Huntley’s writing pulled me in completely. Her sharp first-person style captures both Josslyn’s vulnerability and Alicia’s ruthless edge, while the short, urgent chapters and inner-monologue format kept me locked in the chaos of Josslyn’s mind. The result is a gripping, fast-paced read that blurs the line between reality and psychological horror.

My only complaint, if you can call it one, was the dueling unreliable narration. The constant shifts between Josslyn and Alicia’s voices were sometimes disorienting, making it hard to tell who was really in control. But that confusion actually enhanced the story, mirroring Josslyn’s fractured mind and amplifying the tension in a way that pulled me even deeper into the psychological chaos.

All said, I was completely pulled into this novel from the very first page—the dual voices of Josslyn and Alicia made it impossible to look away. Huntley’s dark, fast-paced storytelling kept me hooked throughout, and I loved every twisted moment.

Initially I was just reviewing book one, but I realized there was a prequel so I grabbed that too and decided to just finish the series. It's somewhat outside of my chosen genres, but it scratched my thriller itch.

Interesting concept and unique, I binged the series with no break in attention to the story. The narration was great! I would definitely read this author again.
