The start of a page-turning cozy mystery series

A retired librarian. A chatty orange cat. A murder in a charming seaside town full of secrets.

After being fired from the library, 68-year-old Jim Butterfield decides to retire and move to Oceanview Cove to fulfill his late wife's dream of living near the ocean. But Jim never expects that he will end up in the center of a murder mystery instead of reading about one.

On the second day after coming to the town, his neighbor is found dead, and Jim becomes the prime suspect. Together with Ginger, a cat with extraordinary sarcastic abilities, Jim must untangle a web of secrets and lies hidden behind Oceanview Cove's colorful facade to clear his name.

Can this unlikely duo of amateur sleuths find the real killer before Jim becomes the next victim?

Murder Next Door is the first book in the Jim and Ginger cozy mystery series full of twists and fun. Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie and Richard Osman.

This is a story I’d call “cutesie” and the narrator seemed to go out of his way to make it sound that way. BUT the story line had interesting twists and turns. If the narrator is different I might try the next book in the series.

Cute

The narrator had a truly annoying voice and while the story was ok - a talking cat was a detail that pushed it into fantasy

The story was Ok a regular cozy mystery lite and amusing . The narrators voice almost made me stop listening numerous times. Voices he used sounded like the muppets reading a story. I’m interested in the story but can’t possibly listen to his voices again. Too bad

The plot is simple, but what could have been an enjoyable average read was killed by the reader. The voice is harsh and the characters, especilly the cat, are unpleasant. Needs to be rerecorded with a different reader.

Not worth it
