A HUMOROUS AND HEARTWARMING COZY MYSTERY.

When Sherlock Holmes crosses paths with a small black cat, he rescues it from a vicious attack. He takes it home, because 221B Baker Street has become a sad and lonely place of late. John Watson recently abandoned him for some buxom cleavage, rouged lips and bouncy ringlets. In other words, a wife, of all things.

The great detective has no clue how clever the scrappy little tomcat will prove to be. But can a cat no larger than a squirrel, replace John, his former companion and partner-in-crime-solving? Or will Cat Watson be a curse rather than a blessing? A mouse in Sherlock’s underpants would suggest the former.

Time will tell, as the pair get to know each other. Together, they investigate a mixed bag of mysteries. Mary Watson’s missing bicycle is no true case, but a possible attempt to reunite two estranged friends. The mystery of the Baker Street Blackmailer is another matter entirely. Sherlock faces a remarkably cunning foe, crafty enough to outwit even him. To survive the villain’s deadly schemes, Sherlock will need both his Watsons by his side, if they will deign to work together on his behalf.

I didn’t like that John Watson was clueless I think as a doctor he should be more informed.

It was very creative and fun to hear the car’s point of view

I’m a cat person. I’m known for being a cat person. I’ve read a couple of detective series where a cat has featured prominently. I bought this book hoping it would be a happy accident. It’s not.

The author has a pretty conceit about Holmes taking in a very clever stray cat.

My issue isn’t with the cat being hyper-intelligent. It’s that, in order to be clever, the humans, including Holmes, are all idiots! The characters have the right names, but the rest of parcel is lacking.

About the writing style, the author needs to hie herself to a book store and buy a thesaurus. I’ll swear that the word “bottom” was used so often I started rewriting the scenes in my mind, with fundament, rear end, buttocks, butt, posterior, arse, ass, anything but bottom!

And the use of “sweater” instead of jumper was wrong, wrong, wrong! If you’re going to set something in London try to get the language right.

All said, if this had been a free book I’d have been happy with it. But I paid good money for this and I was short-changed.

Call this “Holmes Adjacent”

Sherlock Holmes has always had a knack for crossing paths with intriguing people—but this time, it’s a cat. Unmoved by superstition, Holmes takes to the small black ball of fur, finding comfort in its presence after the loss of Dr. Watson and his loyal hound. Together, they navigate a series of interwoven mysteries, leading to the startling revelation of Mrs. Watson’s true nature and work. A unique and captivating twist on the classic Holmes tale!

Patricia Srigley skillfully builds on the familiar personalities of Watson and Holmes, weaving fresh adventures, new characters, and inventive storylines. Her character development is rich and engaging, offering deeper insight into both men. Through these short stories, we see Holmes’s underlying loneliness and a married Watson—out of his element, missing his friend, and occasionally portrayed as endearingly bumbling. Holmes remains brilliant, self-assured, and surprisingly susceptible to being outwitted—particularly by his housekeeper. Srigley delivers a captivating collection of mysteries that not only entertain but also explore the nuances of the Holmes–Watson relationship, enhanced by the delightful addition of a cat who matches Holmes’s skill in sleuthing. Smooth, natural dialogue ties the stories together, culminating in a final, satisfying mystery.

James Meunier does a fantastic job bringing each character to life, giving them voices that perfectly match their personalities. He speaks clearly, uses just the right tone for every scene, and keeps the story moving at a lively pace. Even during fast-paced moments, he switches between characters effortlessly, staying consistent and believable throughout. His performance kept me completely engaged from start to finish, and I genuinely enjoyed every minute of it.

As for the audiobook itself, it’s a refreshing take on Holmes—stripping away the usual stuffiness and showing a more human, yet still clever and entertaining side to the famous detective. It’s a fun, engaging listen that fans of Holmes (and even those new to his world) will find hard to shut off.

Fresh and Entertaining!

Quite the misogynistic tale. Mrs Hudson ceases to be an older widow trying to make a living by renting a flat, and is instead a serial predator who seeks ways to grope Sherlock. And Mrs Mary Watson becomes a criminal low life.

Disapointing.
