Publisher's summary

What is shattering the idyllic, seaside community of Rancho, California?

Grisly death. Bodies washing up on nearby Moonlight Beach. It’s downright disconcerting to the privileged one percent living in their gated communities in one of SoCal’s ritziest enclaves. Worse, they have no idea what or who is behind the slaughter.

Is it sharks? Something supernatural? Greedy venture capitalists?

Maneaters are known to inhabit the waters off Moonlight Beach, but shark attacks are rare. What about black magic, satanic rituals? A coven of witches lives nearby. Or could it be the venture capitalists, whose latest company harvests human organs for transplant, exploiting the vulnerable to save the wealthy elite?

The violence shows no signs of ending.

Two more people are killed on a cliff overlooking the beach – and all their organs are missing. This bloody terror isn’t slowing down. It’s accelerating. What the hell is going on? They better figure all this out before more people get butchered or, God forbid, Rancho’s inflated property values plummet.

Enjoyed this story!

Yurie Kiri tells a thrilling paranormal tale with Moonlight Beach Murder and Magic. I haven't read anything by this author before, and what a hidden gem. I enjoyed it so much, that I have now followed the author and look for more books to read. This book in in print and on audiobook, and I have read the print, and listened to the audiobook, enjoying both, and writing a review for each one. The listener is introduced to Moonlight Beach, and the residents that are close by and are the ones that can afford the view. How terrible for them, that bodies are starting to wash up on shore. This is a grandly told paranormal thriller that brings in the possible, with what may or may not be possible, and those all add up to deaths, gory and terrifying deaths. So many theories as to what happened, and why it is happening, rather than how to stop it from happening, if that is even an option. he author weaves a tangled web of story, and captures the reader. Absolutely chilling, with death around every corner. This author is a great storyteller. The listener just embarks on a superb journey. It's a look over your shoulder book, because you never know who or what is going to appear next. Moonlight Beach Murder and Magic is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. Amy's Bookshelf Reviews recommends that anyone who reads this book, to also write a review.

Very entertaining and intriguing

Okay so this was a great story. First of all the authors writing style was great and I felt everything was done well in that regard. What I really liked about the book was the magic and mysticism, as well as the sinister murder plot.

The author does a great job of jumping between the character's story lines. A lot of times when I read novels and the author is switching point of views, sometimes it gets confusing or doesn't make sense. However I was able to follow along and was very engaged. My favorite characters are the friends who practice ritualistic magic.

One thing that was surprisingly good was the erotic parts of the novel. It was very well written and it was making me turn the pages so fast anticipating what would happen next. I think I will add this book to my top favorites. It definitely was a very enjoyable read. I haven't been this excited reading in a while. It was nice to be jolted back into excitement.

Modern and Mystical

Moonlight Beach: Murder and Magic by Yurie Kiri is the first of three books in a gripping, mystical series. I’d consider this book somewhat of a hidden gem because it turns out to be way more than meets the eye. I usually am hesitant to buy into books that have a supernatural component because I think it makes for lazy writing when the author can just use “magic” to tie up any plot line, but that is not the case here. The storyline is well thought out and intriguing at every page. Additionally, the characters are so well developed that you feel like you have met them personally in real life.

The author does well with blending magical forces with modern day crime. It does not feel too heavy on the magic which is a hard balance to strike. And the mystery is enough to keep any one from putting the book down. I look forward to diving into books two and three, as I know they will be just as cunning as the first one.

Absolutely Excellent

Murders, Mysteries, Magic…What’s not to love? This was an absolutely excellent story, and I enjoyed it from start to finish. Probably the thing I loved the most about this book was it’s attention to exact detail without feeling like the “Paid by the word, four pages describing breakfast” kind of book that people usually talk about when discussing very descriptive books. I felt like I could see every person, place and thing is this book easily, but I never once thought it got wordy or boring. In my humble opinion, it was worth reading just for that, and the fact that it was a great story with relatable characters was extra bonus and I loved it from beginning to end. The only warning I would give is that with all the excellent detail—this book does involve some kind of…nasty murders. That combined with very well detailed story telling—take it as a warning if you have a sensitive stomach, or are prone to nightmares from reading. The writing paints a gruesome picture that only added to my enjoyment of the book, but I would feel remiss if I didn’t mention it for those less inclined to that type of reading.

That being said, it did have a great story as well. I got sucked in within the first fifteen minutes, and found it difficult to step away to do anything else, because I was so desperate to know what was going to happen next. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good murder story, especially with the fun of the magic wrapped in on it. Definitely worth the purchase.

You won’t be able to hit pause on this descriptive thriller

Admittedly I could barely pay attention to my work after downloading “Moonlight Beach” by Yurie Kiri. I chuckled at the realness of the opening Author’s note, but nothing prepared me for the rawness of this gruesome, thrilling, and descriptive story of a costal town’s unexpected slaughters across the beach. I loved the dialogue scattered throughout the novel and how each character gives you a new perspective of the town, once sacred Native American grounds, and it’s inhabitants — local or visiting. I found myself drawn in to the story immediately and vividly able to picture each scene due to Kiri’s precision to detail and commitment to the story’s growing plot. Being a thriller lover, I was enthralled by the constant “edge of your seat” feeling that was pieced together from an overheard conversation in real life. While the scenes can be quite graphic in both sexual innuendos, the crime scenes and the magical, mysterious elements woven throughout— all in all you can’t help but stay awake or buzz through your lunch break to continue listen for the twisted truth.

If you are a thriller lover and find yourself creating a movie in your mind as you listen along, you will be captivated by Moonlight Beach. Additionally, the narrator is very good and engaging. While I could have done without some of her attempted voices and accents, I felt her tone and pace really met with the words elegantly to deliver the right experience to devour Moonlight Beach in 11 hours or less.
