Publisher's summary

Unleash the monster inside.

A mysterious island. A half-orc battling for control of his mind. Things that go bump in the night.

Fresh from the events of the Academy's end of year tournament, Half-Orc Lugor and his party are on their first official Guild assignment. Their mission? Aid in the creation of a new settlement on a recently discovered landmass. Unfortunately, Lugor is finding out that nothing in life ever comes easy. Disaster strikes on arrival, and there is no way to contact his mentor Maric for help. The expedition starts crumbling, and Lugor must find a way to keep the new settlement from falling apart.

But Lugor has his own personal problems. His monster side is awakening faster than predicted, and if he doesn't become strong enough, then the Orc soul inhabiting his body will seize control. With his friends by his side, Lugor is still confident that he can take on the challenges ahead of him. That is, if the demonic beasts attacking in the night don't kill them all first.

not as good as the first one

maybe it's the change in setting or that I had high expectations, but the story falls short of what I was expecting, a little too predictable, bordering on regular Young Adult novels....
still I was enjoying my time...

however SBTs performance falls so far short of what I was expecting from them after listening to them for years....
they honestly seems to have fallen into the trap of focusing on sound effects over quality narration which was not a problem of theirs previously...
several times it felt like the narrator wasn't even aware of what situation their character was in and over all the narration just lacked feeling which was not something I was expecting to say about SBT

Great sequel

Loved the storyline. The narration actors were fantastic. I hope there will be more in the series.

Magnificent

what a excellent follow up book. I enjoyed the first book in this series but this second book was even better. Great follow up, Daniel, and the cast of narrators just makes the whole experience that much better. Hope this ain't the end of this series, cause I feel that I would truly enjoy more.

Loved the story and enjoyed it a lot

I loved the story, fun, the only thing that I didn't like was probably a audio issue of some kind. Just about every other character outside of the main trio sounded like they were wearing full faced helmet when talking, again most of the other characters. Other than that I had no other issues. Liked the fact that there is a sudden possible love interest with two of the main characters. Though a bit confusing on how he got an Orc soul if his mother was already pregnant with his before his father transformed but I'll let it slide for now. Hope the next book/ audible comes out soon and together. Keep up the good work

a good read

this is a good book to read. A good addition to the first book and you get to see the characters grow. however it does seem like it was a fast book. so that's good and bad that now we have to wait for another book. hopefully that's not the end of the story

Amazing

What a great book also it has probably the best line i ever heard before ( SPOILERS) ..........................

Don't tell me you're going to kill me with the power of friendship. that was great but i also like that the author didn't shy away from casualties and permanent injuries and overall was an amazing book and I'm really excited for book 3

great story weird pacing

while I thoroughly enjoyed the book over all the pacing throughout left me with a mild headache as it continually went from dead stop to lightspeed action back to dead stop resulting in me having to replay parts to make sure I didn't miss something. but overall a good continuation from the previous book

Great book + great narration = amazing audiobook

Great follow up novel. I like the characters still see a good amount of progress in their leveling. The plot is interesting and kept me engaged until I finished the book. The full cast narration and sound effects made for a tremendous audio performance.

Looking forward to the next

Got hooked on this series and finished it in a few days. Can’t wait til the next one comes out. Still has the same minor issue as the first on audible where some words are cut short but it’s minor. Hope there are a lot of books planned for this series, they are just so short and fly by.
