Night Man is coming...and you don’t want to be caught in his sights.

From award-winning and USA Today best-selling author Brett Battles comes Mercy, the highly anticipated third thriller in the Night Man Chronicles featuring Nate, from Battles' best-selling Jonathan Quinn series.

“Help me! Please!”

With their jobs in the spy world on suspension, all Nate and Jar wanted was a little vacation time out of the city. But not even two days on the road, their plans are hijacked by a teen’s cry.

What starts out as helping the kid out of a tricky situation leads Nate and Jar into a dark world of fire and hate, of greed and corruption.

As much as they might want to continue on their way, neither would ever do so.

Because helping those who aren’t in a position to help themselves is Nate and Jar’s specialty.

If you enjoy action-packed mystery crime thrillers with high-stakes suspense, surprising plot-twists, and a cast of unforgettable characters, then join millions of fans who love Battles’ novels and start listening to Mercy, your next great listen, today.

Well Written, Captivating, Edge of Your Seat...

...thrilling.
I really like the Night Man series featuring Nate from the Jonathan Quinn series. This is the third book in the series of standalone books. I prefer listening in order but it is not necessary. I would suggest listening to book one first for some background but again that is subjective. In the Quinn books Nate plays second fiddle to his boss. Always a good read but so much hidden potential. This series gives Battles the arena to develop Nate’s character to his full potential.
Nate is a very methodical man. He finds wrongs and tries to make them right. Usually when he find someone slightly shady there’s more going on behind the scenes that make the little wrongs more like an iceberg. What’s below the surface is immense. His traps are elaborate and well thought out. It’s great listening to how the bad guy gets tricked into walking right in to a perfectly orchestrated trap that takes almost a whole book to lay out
Zack Villa does an excellent job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Nate and Jar (and Liz)

I see that Shelley has already reviewed MERCY which is Book 3 in The Night Man Chronicles series by Brett Battles. I agree with everything in her review so I will add to it rather than repeating it.

Liz: Nate, originally the helper of Jonathan Quinn and now Quinn's partner, met and fell in love with Quinn's sister Liz midway in the Quinn series. Liz was later killed during an operation is Europe.Nate had a very difficult time accepting Liz's death. Even now, several years later, Liz still talks to him. He realizes it's all in his mind but her advice/pleadings to him are unerring in their accuracy. All three of the books in this series result from Nate following Liz's advice.

Jar: Jar is a 22 year old Asian woman who is on the autism spectrum. She was introduced in recent novels in the Quinn series and became a full team member in The Vanished. She first appeared in the Night Man series in Book 2.. She is a genius with computers and language both of which she taught herself. She now lives with Nate. Their relationship is non-sexual. Jar takes everything literally and she cannot tolerate being touched. After living with Nate for a year she has made progress in both areas.

Nate: In MERCY Nate clearly wants to move on from long dead girlfriend Liz and establish a new girlfriend relationship with Jar.

Covid hysteria in this book ruined the story

If you could have dropped the fear mongering for this it would have been my favorite of the series. Nearly nonstop observation that people weren’t wearing masks “gasp” or even worse “not social distancing” (oh the horror) did not add value to the story and were major detractions. Stick with the story line please. Great characters and otherwise great story.

We get it, wear a mask.

Great author. Great narrator. I listen to fiction to get away from everyone’s opinion. Brett voices his multiple times in the first few hours. I even agree with him, but get tired of hearing it. I’m not finishing this book and will return it.

Good Nate story

It’s interesting that some stories are about being a “do gooder” but I’d rather there was more genuine cleaner work. The story must have been written before Covid mask wearing was documented in studies such as the Danish mask study or other WHO or CDC, or peer reviewed, mask wearing studies. The shaming was unnecessary and counter reality. Without that I might have enjoyed it more.
Regardless, I’ll read Brett Battles again.

Fan Freaking Tastic!

Wow, Bravo! To both Mr. Battles and Mr. Villa, Thank you! I’m a fan of everything written by this author and this series is exceptional. This one is very well done, and I have to say, it was brought to life in such an amazing way by the narrator. Please don’t switch who reads these, because Mr. Villa IS Nate! Captivating and a joy.
The only nit picky point I could even think of, why didn’t they think to have a fire extinguisher on hand for the last part? Seems like these pro’s would have had that as a given for what they had set up.
(Just a thought and didn’t diminish anything)
I can’t wait for the next book!

Disappointing

I love Brett Battles' books, and I have enjoyed the first 2 Night Man Chronicles, but as much as I wanted to like this book, I didn't. The repeated reminders of the pandemic were annoying, and the storyline was boring. This was so disappointing since I've waited for this book to come out on Audible.

So Worth Waiting For

One of the best series character storyline newish series. Zack Villa embodies Nate breathing life into the character; who is, in every respect, a modern day hero battling evil in a moral way that is truly inspiring and admirable. Can't wait to hear the further adventures of the Nate, and Jar team as well as when they rejoin their Quinn compatriots battling evil. Many thanks to Brett Battles for his brilliant storylines and characters; so gifted!

Horrible constant Covid references

The POS author can’t get out of his own way and tell a story without referring to Covid. He ruined the last Quinn book and now this one too. Covid has ruined my life and millions of others. We listen to book to get away from crap like this. I’ll never buy another one of his books and will return this one.
