Parent Coach

Deciding to parent or coach a teen is important. In this guide to mental toughness and agility, the author addresses the difference in coaching a teen versus parenting a teen on the road to the mental agility that is required in athletics. The book is well written and laid out for the listener to clearly delineate the differences and grasp the consequences of the actions taken by each role.

Keep Striving For Excellence

This right here is a phenomenal resource to guide your young athlete toward a strong and resilient sporting lifestyle. My child is a very talented athlete and even though he's not a teen just yet, we listened to this book together and he realised that there is a lot more work he can do to set himself up even more. He's getting ready for a professional development pathway in his beloved sport and this book couldn't have come along at a better time. He has asked me if he can listen to this book again to make sure he didn't miss anything. We have actively worked on goal setting and building him up into a strong athlete as he matures. If you have a young athlete in your family, they NEED this book. Great resource for parents to become the best supportive mentor to their children.

This book not only takes on the physical preparation of top athletes, but also the mental, nutritional, health, and academic well-being of these athletes so that they are not only prepared for sport but for life as well! LD Harris also teaches how to avoid burnout, reduce inflammation, encourage gratitude and humility, reach smart goals, and use journaling and music to reduce pre and post-event stress. I believe that every teen athlete should read this book.

Perfect Guide for Parents to help teens

I recently finished Mental Toughness for Teen Athletes - A Parents Guide for Helping Teens Gain Confidence, Self-Esteem, and Well-Being on and Off the Field, and I was impressed by the amount of care and insight LD Harris provides in the book. Harris provides a holistic approach to helping teen athletes improve their mental health, and offers tried, tested, and successful strategies for supporting them. These strategies range from setting reasonable goals, to effective coaching and communication techniques. My favorite takeaway from the book was the author's insight into nuanced communication techniques to help during the tumultuous teen years. My son is nowhere near his teenage years right now, but I'm sure that I will be coming back to this guide when he does reach that age to remind me of these amazing strategies that Harris provides. Furthermore, the narration of the audiobook was exceptional and I would recommend this book to anyone looking to empower their teen athlete and find the perfect balance in their parental interventions.

Beyond the field

The best chapter in the audiobook was about finding the right balance between coaching and parenting. As a mom, I want my child to improve. However, unsolicited advice from me can be counter-intuitive from the coach's technical teachings. Thanks to this audiobook I have been learning to "zip the lip" and let things go. It's my job to encourage. This book also covers tons of other factors like eating & cognitive development. There are so many pieces of sage advice. I recommend to any parent of a teen athlete.

A Must-Have Guide for parents of Teen Athletes

I've never thought about it, but this audiobook has brought to my attention the responsibility laid on parents whose teen athletes. The book brings to the fore the key role parents play in the development of their children so that they can succeed in their chosen sport as well as in life.

What stands out for me is the focus on the parent's role in helping their teen to cope with stressful situations. It is one thing to be able to perform well as an athlete but it is quite another when your mental health is challenged. The strategies presented lean heavily on effective communication and self-care. They are easy to understand, and educating the parent, as this book does, goes a long way in helping teens develop on and off the field. If your child is a teen athlete, you should grab this book.

A Practical Guide

This book covers all the basics to help you coach your teen to achieve athletic exellence.

But it goes beyond the mechanics of the "how to" in two ways that really impressed me.

First, it acknowledges that there will be challenges. Not just the usual hardships trying to reach goals, but problems and challenges caused by your teen achieving their goals.

Second, this book reminds you that excellence in sports in not more important than your teen growing up to be a happy well balanced adult. You need to be their parent firsf and foremost.

Gather the grit!

LD Harris delivers a self-help implant to young athletes' psyches that will be sure to enhance not only their, but pretty much every area of their lives.

The clear and concise narration from KC Wayman does a great job of getting straight to the point on a subject that should be made aware to all young people, not just athletes; MENTAL TOUGHNESS.

My favorite thing about this book is that it is up to date, with studies from 2023 (the depression statistics for 2023 anyone?!). I found this to be super helpful.

This multi-hour listen covers the foundations all the way to mindset mastery that will be sure to inspire even the most down on their luck athlete.

Mental resilience is something that can be trained, just like an athlete trains a muscle in the gym.

I think it’s super important for athletes to remember this and orient their lives and schedules with a little self-help mental work (not just time in the gym) and this book is a fantastic place to start.
