Annoying

Michael Withey loves to use many examples of logical fallacies routed in his anti-God, anti-Holy Bible, and anti-Donald Trump world view. Some of his examples are short sighted and without context. The Bible bashing gets annoying and makes it difficult to focus on the point of the book.

Buy another audiobook

This audiobook is about logical fallacies but it uses fallacies in the examples. It has enough straw man arguments in it to single handily fill every farm in the Midwest. This book also does nothing but push left wing propaganda on its examples. Hitler would be proud of this nonsense. Buy something else

Required reading for anyone concerned w/ politics

People who dont have a firm grip on what the fallacies in this book are and how they operate or manifest in public debate—and I’m inclined to believe that’s most of us most of the time, even smarty-pants Audible listeners—are effectively operating with a handicap every time they try to analyze media-narratives about politics or other issues. This book is a critical, baseline type of resource for critical thinking in general and I wish there was some way to motivate every adult and adolescent to read it before allowing them to declaim their political beliefs and allegiances. Since imposing the book is impractical, all I can really do is promote it.

Left leaning reader destroys credibility.

A book about fallacies that uses them to make a political statement. Another liberal speaker who is willing to destroy his own credibility to score political points. Not really worth anything as a book about logic.

Hard left politics mixed in with pseudologic

The guy talks about how the argument of authority is a logical fallacy and then he quoted Paul Krugman to make an argument about Medicare spending and the deficit.

The book is loaded non-stop with left-wing political views. Personally I would suggest the book You Are Not So Smart. It is for the most part politically neutral and covers 80% of the same information as this book.

Completely logical ,ignore reviews claiming bias

This is an extremely useful and organized perspective of fallacious logic. It’s humorously written, modern, and approachable. Ignore previous reviews that clam this as “bias” these are clearly right-wing Enthusists who have trouble hearing examples that include people like President Obama or examples that question theories such as “flat earth.” The irony is that many of these examples that the author uses are exactly the reason logic was invented in the classical era. If you can’t hear or accept logic because it has references that you don’t feel good about, this is a primary fallacy. Appeal to Anger and even Ad Hominem: Guilt by Association.

Disappointing critical thinking and logic

Unfortunately, this book is tainted with bias, to the point where examples of logical fallacies examples are one side political opinions. Don’t buy for objective critical thinking advice.

Argument from authority IS a fallacy.

Author claims that argument from authority is okay as long as they have proper credentials. i dont care if people have 50 PhDs. If their reasons are fallacious...that means my opponents reason for trusting them is fallacious. The person's reasons/premises are what matter. A lot of credentialed and smart people say very illogical things.

An author trying to give lessons on good argumentation shouldn't use weak arguments as a "counterarguments" to the reader. The author is bent toward the political left. His NRA example was embarrassing. Claiming the "well regulated militia" portion supercedes the "the right of the people"... Its the "right of the people" not the "right of the militia"... Im guessing the author does little homework on opposing arguments.

Premise 1)Militias are citizen armies...ie armies made of "the people"
Premise 2) Take "the people's" right to bear arms away

Conclusion: The people that make up the "well-regulated militia that is necessary to the security of a free state" is left unarmed. Security of a free state is compromised.

Good book

Worth the listen or read. Great for beginners. However, to many political examples were given.

This should have been amazing but was so dry!

Terrible reader with a monotone voice of such dullness it made me want to sleep.
Great subject matter but the writing is abstract and dry. Was hoping for excellent argument advice but this had little to enthuse me. Such a shame.
