Publisher's Summary

The power of mantras comes not from the meaning of the symbols, but from their direct vibrational effect on our body's physiological and energetic systems. Ashley-Farrand also teaches that Sanskrit is an energy-based language and mantras are spiritual formulas for working with this energy. They are desgined to eliminate obstacles as we progress spiritually, and help us to make energetic progress toward good.

An Entire Course, not just a Book

If you could sum up Mantra: Sacred Words of Power in three words, what would they be?

Powerful Attunement Within

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mantra: Sacred Words of Power?

All of the author's chants are beautiful, authentically pronounced and create a meaningful vibration when intoned.

Which scene was your favorite?

The seed mantras were a great tool, and I particularly will use the healing mantras.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. This is a course. You will want to study it and return to it over and over again, practicing only one or two chants for a few weeks before moving to the next.

Any additional comments?

This is an amazingly complete course on mantras. I needn't have purchased several other books. My advice is to print out the PDF straightaway, and use a highlighter and add notes, just as if you were in a classroom. Bookmark the audio, but also note the time of each chanted mantra in your workbook. At some point in your practice, you will want to go directly to particular mantras, to learn the pronunciation and rhythm of the chant. I have mine in a binder and it makes for quite a complete workbook. Seeing the mantras broken down while listening to them has greatly enhanced my understanding of words that I then learn to use by myself. The author has clearly lived with mantra in his life for a very long time. He has an easy-going, conversational delivery that makes this a pleasant listen. His chanting is melodic and sounds very authentic (no flattened anglicized pronunciations here). He occasionally lingers to tell a story, but largely, the book just moves from mantra to mantra, with succinct descriptions of how to use them. You will likely find more than one to address your particular objective in life, or the problem you need solved. I am so impressed with the depth of knowledge provided here, and in such a simple way, that I am looking into the author's other works and courses. And yes, I feel I have had results already, just in practicing one of the seed mantras for a few days. Overall, this book is a wonderful value for anyone who wants to actually practice mantra chants. Working at the proper pace (not trying to do them all at once, every day), you can take years to work through all of them.

Learn to Chant Mantras by Listening

Would you listen to Mantra: Sacred Words of Power again? Why?

This is great for those of us who see the written Sanskrit and wonder how to pronounce the mantras. The author also has a great deal of knowledge about the purpose of each mantra he teaches, and includes lessons in history and mythology, as well as lots of anecdotes about real people using the mantras and their sometimes unexpected results. I listened to this on a solo road trip to a meditation center and it was just the thing to give me food for thought while I was there.

You are Devine Love

The definitive Western answer to mantras. Having worked with mantras blindly in the past, this book illuminated the science, history and philosophy behind mantras. In this you will find anecdotes in which the mantras have found practical use in life, as well, as a thorough telling of the Hindu cosmology through the lens of mantra. The narration is passionate as it is the author's life's work. Simply put this is a gift of love.

Enlighten by Thomas!!

Yes, I am a Hindu. Daily mantra practice is been thought as part of my up bringing. Stories behind the incarnations are been told over and over. But if I had say any of to the western word I can't because it is so complicated. Thomas did an amazing, excitant, outstanding work with not only chanting mantras but explaining them. Lots of divine love to you Thomas!!
Request:- Please continue your work with mantras from Vedas and Upanishad.

Great Mantra Teaching

This is an excellent introduction to mantras and also provides a solid, logical frame work for understanding how and why they work. Lots of mantras are provided with a good explanation of how each might affect the practitioner. One thing to keep in mind - mantras are excellent tools but the effects can be powerful and for some disorienting or overwhelming so it is best to practice mantras under the guidance of a well established teacher.

Excellent! Best of his work to me, so far

I have read Healing Mantras, Shakti Mantras, and most of Chakra Mantras. All were great, but this audio recording was so helpful, because it filled in many details and also gave a very cohesive summary of things covered in the books as well as about mantra in general. The other great benefit to this audio is the fact that the listener gets to hear the mantras chanted - correct pronunciation and cadence - which is so helpful to people who sincerely want to start a personal practice.
