Emma Frederick bolts upright in bed, pulse racing. It must be a bad dream.

Except it’s not.

Crrrrrreeeeeeeeaaaaaaakkkkkkk.

The sound of the loose step sends her body into overdrive, and she rushes for the secret room behind the wall. The screech of old hinges echoes through the house as he enters her bedroom.

He starts whistling.

Three blind mice. Three blind mice.

She slaps a hand over her mouth, stifling her scream.

He’s coming for her, but that can’t be.

She killed him last month.

Highly rated for:

I would never have noticed the overuse of the word nodded had it not been that the narrator pronounced it as nauded. A minor thing that was annoying.

Narrator pronunciations drove me crazy!

The story was engrossing, the characters were easy to relate to. Overall I would have rated it at 5 stars, but the twist at the end was just too contrived for me. But what hurt this book more than anything else for me was the poor narration. The narrator seemed to cope with dialogs and character's voices fairly well, but the narrative parts of a book are read with uniform inflections at end of each sentence which are very irritating and distracting. I would have considered getting more books in this series, but they are all read by the same narrator, so I'll give them a miss

Good story, horrible narration

I was really annoyed at the person reading the story. I was also really annoyed that she kept saying "she said" amd "he said" and "she said." I think i would have been able to tell who was saying that without telling me. I had a hard time finishing the book, the story line was ok.

It was ok!

First book by this author I read, and won’t be my last. The author managed to capture my attention in every chapter, I couldn’t put it down.

Excellent book

What did you love best about Malevolent?

The performance was excellent.
The story was interesting and entrataining.
The final twist really good!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Detective Jackson. Although no very relevant, I like where his character is going. I am not into the romance part of where his character is going but, I want to see how he becomes a good detective.

What does Julie McKay bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

When I read a book, I like to invest my time in classics, in books that are really profound. For audiobooks I like something that does not require extreme attention therefore, the perdormance is key. Julie brings the character to life and helps keeping me interested.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The fact that the abused woman had done everything right, yet the system was failing her.

Any additional comments?

I hope the stories dont become repetitive.

Good One!
