Publisher's summary

Max thought he had a purpose…

But one IED and half a leg later, Maxwell Watson is trying to make a new plan. He hasn’t been back to Three Lakes since high school, but with his military career cut short he has nowhere else to go. He’s trying to find something to bring his passion back, but he never expected that to be a person, and certainly not a friend he hasn’t seen in more than a decade.

Carson’s mostly happy in Three Lakes…

The brewery keeps him busy, his home keeps him comfortable, and his friends keep him entertained. What more could Carson Wiley ask for? He’s met all the eligible men in Three Lakes and none of them do it for him, so love is off the table, but he doesn’t need a relationship, even if he feels the occasional pang of longing. When an old friend he once rejected comes to town he’s stunned by the bolt of attraction.

Max isn’t supposed to be looking for love. He remembers Carson’s rejection and he doesn’t want to risk his heart again. But as Carson helps him settle into civilian life, Max can’t help but feel like there’s more between them. Is he ready to put his feelings and a newfound friendship on the line for the chance at the love of a lifetime?

enjoyed it

Would I listen to it again: yes
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes

Story comment: good pace, lots going on and great characters to keep me entertained, add in a good love story for returning Military guys and i'm a happy camper.

Narrator comment: Richard Reynolds narration improves with each book he does. The characters personalities come through enough that its easy to distinguish characters and the emotions and intonations all work to bring them to life.

emotions all over the place

This is so much, and I loved every bit of it! So much emotional baggage on top of other baggage makes it loaded with obstacles, but the underlying love floats through all the layers! Heartwarming and captivating. The narrator was fantastic. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this story and am giving an honest review.

Loved it.

This is the third book in A Small Town Romance (Love in Three Lakes) with developed characters. This story is about Max and Carson. Carson and Max were friends and Carson rejected Max, so Max left went into the military. Now Max is back in Three lakes after being discharged from the military after an IED takes a part of his leg. Max is struggling to make sure he remains in control of his new life and trying to find his footing in his new life. Carson is now busy with the brewery and has had the time for self-discovery. Carson and Max grow closer than ever now that he back in town and the two have had time to do some growing up. The journey of discovery, trust, and love is beautiful in this second chance romance. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. The narration was very well done.

Such a sweet series

This is the sweetest series and this one might even be y favorite...well until the next one I'm sure! The only thing odd to me is the abruptness of the ending but overall it was a good listen with good narration.

Happy Place

I began this series before the Corona virus outbreak. The positivity of the story is exactly what I need right now. Wish I could go to Three Lakes and ride out this horror show. Looking forward to book 4.

Sweet romance

Another great book in the series. It’s great seeing Carson finally get his man and Max was his perfect match. This story had so much going on-friends to lovers, ex bffs, and a Military man. Oh, Let’s not forget dogs. I love dogs and I love men who love dogs. Max and his story broke my heart but the story never got sappy. It maintained a realistic tone the entire time. Strong writing. The narrator is decent, kindve slow or monotonous at times but overall not bad.

Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls;

the most massive characters are seared with scars. ~Khalil Gibran~
Perfect second chance romance. Max and Carson were friends when they were younger and Carson broke Max's heart. Max then left to join the army and now as adults they have had a chance to reconnect. It wasn't an easy battle but Carson eventually broke through Max's barriers and won him over again. I really loved the way the plot unfolds and allows you to see the insecurities, scars, and strength that both of these characters have. It is a really beautiful, heart melting story!! I was provided a copy and voluntarily chose to leave a review. This is my honest review.

Wow!

What a wonderful story with plenty of characters intertwining throughout. Loved Carson and Max and nice to learn about how hard it can be coming home after service is over.

Making Peace

I'm still enjoying the series as a whole, but this particular story was average. I liked the characters, especially an injured vet hero, but I think Carson was too plain. I would have enjoyed more tension between them instead of one or the other just walking away.

Richard Reynolds does a great job in all of the books in the series.

I received an audio copy of this story in exchange for an unbiased review.
