Smart men never dabble with demons. I never claimed to be smart, but at least, I’m powerful enough to control them. When I bound Havoc to me nearly 300 years ago, I never realized how difficult he’d make my life, although “accidentally” lighting him on fire every now and then does bring a smile to my face. Havoc is handsome, mysterious, and somehow, my closest companion, even if we don’t always get along.

Publisher's Summary
In the year 2047, Lochlan takes the bus to his soul-sucking job answering phones to remain unnoticed. Life is easier that way. Little attachment. Few friends. That means less people caught in the crossfire when he loses control again.
The last time he came close to losing it was when he was around Zemila. That was five years ago, just before he disappeared. That was why he disappeared. He’s good at that. Disappearing. Resettling. Being overlooked.
That is, until the visions started. Prophetic visions.
That’s when he knew the Old World had found him.
These weren’t the fun kind of visions…if there were such a thing. They were the watch-people-die kind, the try-to-stop-it-before-it-happened kind, the maybe-save-some-lives kind. He thought the visions were his redemption. A redemption he didn’t believe he deserved. When one of them led him to Zemila, he thought it meant he wasn’t a danger to her anymore. That he wasn’t a danger to anyone anymore.
Power attracts enemies. Lochlan thought he’d learned this lesson.
He was wrong. Wrong about the visions. Wrong about everything. And it was going to cost him.
Him and everyone he loved.

Get ready for a Great Story
To start of, an important aspect to audiobooks are the narrators voice. For myself, listening to audiobooks can be hard when the voice is annoying or kind of boring, but in this case, I found that the narrator did a great job. He would change his voice for the different characters and I really enjoyed his ability to give the characters accents.
Magic Required is a story about Lochlan Ellyll, who is the son of a demigod. He lives a solitary life and tries to blend in with humans. He works at tech and security company with his best friend Jenner.
Lochlan starts having these dreams, at the beginning of the book, of people dying and he begins to realize that they are coming true...
This is a fascinating story, that kept me entertained and questioning what would happen next. One of my favorite parts about this world is that it wasn't just about Gods and demigods, but there were humans that could have a bit of magic too. Everyone is born with light inside them and some people have more than others. Those that do have what they called a spark, which gave them an ability such as an earth gift. 😄 I loved this detailed of the story and found it to be unique.
Overall, this was a really fun and entertaining book. It is filled with magic, mystery, action, drama, and love. I hope if you are reading this review that you give this book a try and enjoy it as much as I did! ❤

Found Through Author's YT Channel
Ms Hannah mentioned her book on her YT channel Hannah's Over Invested and I decided to check it out. This book should be more widely known, reviewed and discussed.
Never have I seen anyone use Balor in fiction before, the Fomorians and Llugh constantly but never Balor. The story was compelling and the characters interesting. While I did see the surprise BBEG coming, I was still glad to see a few tricks I wasn't ready for.
The writing wasn't the only thing done well, the narration was fantastic, loved the voices.

Not what I expected
This story was about 70% Mary Sue love triangle, 20% magic, and 10% murder mystery. Beyond that, I have a few problems with the MC in this book. He is almost creepily obsessed with his love interest - who, of course, is absolutely gorgeous and talented, which he reminds the reader constantly. He is also supposedly a demi-god, but hardly uses his powers beyond changing the liquid state of coffee. There was also no convincing reason for him to keep his past a secret other than to further the plot and create unneeded drama. For an immortal, he comes off as kind of dumb and immature. That being said, I thought his backstory was interesting.
I could not get on board with the main female character either. Being so obviously flirty with the MC while being in a relationship makes her seem manipulative and shallow.
The other characters were enjoyable, though, and the plot was decent. I just wish there was more plot, more magic badassery, and less puppy-dog relationship drama.
The narrator was one of the best I've heard, so kudos to him.

Safe, Bland, "Young Adult" Plot [no spoilers]
The narrator was great with a pleasant voice and accent and a great range of accents, character voices, and widely varied inflections; the voice acting in the finale was top notch!
But, the story fell short for me. It was predictable and bland and cheesy; it read like a million other "Young Adult" fantasy romances. The characters were identifiable and likeable, but not enough to make it interesting.

Cool story
I was gifted this book by the Author for an honest review. The MC is a demigod immortal living as a tech support dude in a call center, which make him a very little bit relatable to me. He's also ditching everyone to get a new ID every 10-20 years to conceal his forever young age and waiting for signs of possible redemption for a dark past, and inheriting from himself in the process, which make him very hatable from my point of view.
So he finally get some redemption signs in the form of dreams, about people to save apparently. But it's not a thriller, we are not following a true investigation, we are following signs, myths and prophecy, sprinkled with irish folklore and mythos while also following the day to day life of Lochlan and his surprising rich socialising life with his friends. Never would have though tech support would earn so much in the US. The author also try to subvert most trope in this story.
It's not the most amazing story of the year, by far, and the MC passivity make me want to smash him, but at least it got me intersted in the following, since it is apparently the introduction for a more epic story. Technically the narrator is good, but since there is alsoa female narrator for the last chapter, I don't understand why she is not voicing all the female characters too.

Easy read and enjoyable
“Hogwarts is real!?” - “not exactly”
This book had me from the first few chapters to the very end. It’s not often I read for longer then an hour at a time but I read this in 2 days. (My quickest read yet!) (adhd I can’t focus to long)
The story follows Lochlan our main character who begins the story telling you about his past before slowly exposing his Celtic roots and what he is. And the story develops in a linear fashion introducing characters as they are needed and giving a full sense of who they are and why we need them in our story.
The narration of each of the main characters was perfect. You got a good sense of how deep they understand one another and trust one another.
The story has its twists and turns and it has a passion behind the story it has depth.
All in all a really easy read I loved the fact the last chapter is read from another characters perspective and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series

A good story with very well done narration and voices
I found this easy to follow and the ending wasn’t predictable. It was quite gripping at some points, and the voices done really well to show different characters. I don’t know how excited I am to go onto the next book, as I didn’t feel too emotionally drawn to the characters but overall it was worth the listen and I did enjoy it. Would recommend

Although the story was good and the characters were likeable I found it to be a bit drawn out . I was given this book free for an honest review .

This is a great first book on this serise. I was very quickly drawn in, its an engaging story with great characters and a plenty of depth, its very imaginative and extremely well delivered.
The narration is flawless giving a winning performance, bring the story to life.
I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Great book
A very good unusual book, well worth a read. Very engaging with likable characters and an unusual story in a saturated genre. Looking forward to book 2.

Every town has its secrets, but no one has a secret like hers. Amber Blackwood, lifelong resident of Edgehill, Oregon, has earned a reputation for being a semi-reclusive odd duck. Her store The Quirky Whisker is full of curiosities, from extremely potent sleepy teas and ever-burning candles to kids' toys that seem to run endlessly without the aid of batteries. The people of Edgehill think of the Quirky Whisker as an integral part of their feline-obsessed town, but most give Amber herself a wide berth.

Story
Tess McBray was dying. The solstice syndrome had no cure, and she resigned herself to an early grave. But just when she gave up on survival, all her symptoms mysteriously disappeared. All but one symptom, anyway. Something is wrong with Tess’ hands. They absorb any material they touch, and her skin turns to wood, steel, or concrete. It doesn’t take this comic book obsessed 21-year-old long to figure out what’s going on: somehow, she’s developed super powers. And she’s not the only one; across the country, people are coming forward and sharing their gifts with the world.
