Publisher's Summary

Emma

I was a willing sacrifice in an arranged marriage.

Until my father made a new deal and gave me to another.

Now I must marry a savage.

A Northerner—the very thing I had been taught to hate.

I vow to never be his. I will never belong to Shay O’Reagan.

I will defy him every step of the way.

He may lay claim to my body, but he will never own my heart.

Shay

In order to secure my place in the Irish Mafia, I agree to an arranged marriage.

A marriage with a willing bride, one groomed to be the wife of a mafia king.

What I get is a redheaded beauty hell-bent on my destruction.

Turns out, she was meant to be the perfect mafia wife—just not mine.

That treacherous detail doesn’t stop me from wanting her.

From needing to taste her ruby red lips.

The fire that blazes in her defiant eyes lights a desire inside of me that demands I claim her as my own.

While she wastes my time defying me with every breath, the North rises up demanding retribution for a crime that was buried a long time ago.

The clock is ticking as I battle a war around me and within my own walls. Every minute takes us both closer to certain death.

I’m unsure of who my true allies are and where my enemies are hiding. There’s only one thing I’m certain of.

I will never give up.

I will fight to the end, no matter the cost.

I am a King and I will die on my feet.

Entertaining!

This is the second book in the Young Irish Rebels series, a Dark Irish Mafia. Emma and Shay's story is entertaining, fast-paced, and filled with danger, and many twists and turns. Emma is such a fantastic character. She is naive, but so strong, smart, and brave. Shay is handsome, revengeful, determined, and caring. They are perfect together. Curt Bonnem and Allyson Voller did an excellent job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listening to Mafia Games, the next book in the series. #TheFlock

Mafia King

This is the second book in the Young Irish Rebels series. We got glimpses of Shay in the first book. I love how we got to see his what makes him tick. Shay is determined to find his brother’s killer. Emma is a young 18 year old girl that has been waiting for marriage day. Until she finds out she will be marrying Shay O’Reagan a Northern Irish Mafia king instead of Jack O’Reagan. Curt Bonnem and Allyson Voller did a great job narrating this book.

Dark Irish Mafia Romance

Mafia King by Vi Carter is a dark Irish mafia romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Curt Bonnem and Allyson Voller. This is the second book in the Young Irish Rebels series.

This is the second book of Vi's that I have read and it definitely won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Emma and Shay. I really enjoyed getting both of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Mafia Games to be released on audio so I can get Richard and Claire's story.

Curt and Allyson did an amazing job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you love dark romances, mafia romances, arranged marriages or romantic suspense.

• SADLY, SOMETHING WAS MISSING •

This is a fairly suspenseful, angsty Irish Mafia slow-burn with secrets, lies, betrayal, violence, sex and brutal twists.. and I should’ve really enjoyed it.. but sadly it was only a 3 star “meh” listen for me. Shay’s a ruthless, cold-bloodied Mafia man on a path to find the who, what and why of his brother’s murder and brutally avenge his bloody cage death. Emma’s a feisty, naive, eighteen year old virgin happy with her simple life.. but she’s about to be an unwilling pawn on Shay’s board. An arranged loveless engagement between strangers on course to friction and fight to the bitter end. But soon they're both sucked into a treacherous world of hushed alliances, betrayals, hidden agendas and deadly moves by enemies hiding behind loyal façades. Because the Irish Mafia is a violent powder-keg of shade and dark.. of allies or enemies.. of deadly deals and deadly moves so nothing goes as planned.. especially when it’s discovered just who Emma’s Father is. She’s just a sweet sassy little virginal lamb caught in a dog-eat-dog predator’s world so.. will she be saved or will she be slaughtered?

And it should’ve been great.. however, I was sometimes adrift trying to piece the disjointed story and cast together. Also, I felt the angst between Emma and Shay but I just didn’t feel any sizzle of chemistry between them. Emma’s irrational and irritating some of the time - so I had to remember that she was only eighteen. There were holes and unanswered questions too. The dual POV narration was good.

Worth a credit? Sorry 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m on the fence with this one. It IS an okay listen.. but hand on heart, at the end, I was disappointed and confused with the whole thing. (Remember, this is only my opinion - you may love it).

Intense & Captivating

This was my first Vi Carter audiobook and I was hooked from start to finish. The story was so captivating and the narration was wonderful. It took some getting use to at first but the narrators did a great job with the emotions of each character. Mafia King is book two in the Young Irish Rebels series. It features Emma and Shay who are in an arranged marriage by their families only to find out they were pawns in a much bigger mafia game. This story is full of intense chemistry, violence, action, and shocking twists & turns you don’t see coming. I loved Emma & Shay’s relationship going from enemies to lovers. The whole story was intriguing and definitely made want to keep listening.

dark, intense

Emma, at 18, is arranged to marry. It's not to whom she thinks. She was hoping to be marrying Jack O'Reagan, but becomes engaged to Shay O'Reagan, from Northern Ireland. She thinks the worst of him, and is very wary of his actions.
She is headstrong making her brother keep a promise that may cost their lives.
Shay is determined to find out who was behind his brother's murder in a cage fight. He is ruthless, loyal and protective of Emma.
There is a lot going on in this story, suspense, brutality, betrayal, secrets, lies, revenge.
Allyson Voller, and Curt Bonnem narration is very good.

Great Listen

This is the 1st series/ second book I've listened to by Vi Carter. It is an arranged marriage, mafia, enemies-to-lovers storyline. As much as I disliked it, I loved it. I'm thrilled that it wasn't insta-love even though there was some insta-lust. I hated how Shay treated Emma most of the book, but the ending was excellent. There is a thread moving through the series that makes it best to start with book one, but I think it can stand-alone as well. We get a glimpse into what comes next. Looking forward to it!

Curt Bonnem and Allyson Voller are excellent narrators. Their voices were perfect for the parts. I enjoyed each of their performances!

Mafia King is the second book in the Young Irish Rebels series. While you don't have to have read book one to enjoy this book. The details you need to know from book one are mentioned which was great since it's been a while since I've listened to book one. Mafia King feature Emma and Shay. Emma is to be married but at the last minute her husband to be changes. Shay, her new future husband, is from the north of Ireland. Her preconceived notions about Northerners makes her wary of him. Wary but attracted to him, much to her dismay. I loved Emma's fiery personality. She's smart, feisty and a fighter - much to Shay's dismay. The chemistry between them is explosive when they fight and when they fork. I never know what was going to happen next, who was friend, who was foe. This is great series and Mafia King is a fabulous addition to it.

I received this audiobook for free from Audiobook Obsessions and Pink Flamingo Productions. This is my honest and voluntary review

Emma and Shay!

Born and raised in a mafia family Emma has always known that her marriage would be for power and not love. She has been preparing herself to marry one man only to have the groom switched and she is now facing leaving her family and her home to marry a man she doesn’t want.

Shay has agreed to marry as it will give him power in both the North and the South regions. He is surprised by his bride as she looks to be a damsel in need of being rescued but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. With so many different agendas in play from the people in their lives they find themselves trying to stay one step ahead of the danger surrounding them as well as get the justice that Shay and his family needs.

Emma’s feisty personality is a perfect match for Shay as she understands his lifestyle but with her he shows a gentler side. Suspense, surprises and two characters who found love where they least expected it. The narrators were a great match as they brought out the personalities of the characters and the suspense of the story. 🎧 Audiobook Obsession

Irish mafia romantic suspense! Need I say more?

Vi Carter is continuing her winning Young Irish Rebels series with Mafia King. And what a fantastic story it is! Just the right amount of suspense, romance and angst to keep me on edge and falling in love with the couple. Emma is set for life. An arranged marriage to Jack O'Reagan is in her future and resigned to her fate, she has made her peace with it. And then the deal changes and she is told she is marrying Jack's cousin Shay! He is King of the North, and she will not go into this marriage willingly. Shay is everything I expect in a mafia king. Dark, dangerous, alpha, he isn't easy with Emma, but her feistiness kept her strong. Will these two find a way to bridge their gap? Emma at times showed her naivete, very hostile and judgemental, but as time went, her growth made it easy to like her. Shay too could be brutal, but his misunderstood character was easy to poke through and love. This story is full of action, not only in the bedroom and at times had me on edge thinking the worst was going to happen! It's the best kind of suspense blended with the growing love between Emma and Shay. A great addition to this series, and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Irish brogue is one of the hardest accents to sound realistic, but this narration team does it with ease. Curt Bonnem is amazing as Shay. He has a slight growl in his voice giving Shay a feeling of danger. Allyson Voller pulls out all the stops as Emma, from the slightly bratty to the mature woman. These two work well together creating this fantastic Irish mafia world and I look forward to more from them.
