Inconsistencies!

Although the writer's description of Savannah, Georgia brought the city to life, there were some inconsistencies in the character's descriptions that I had trouble reconciling, such as in the first chapter the author states that the two sisters came from a "tightly knit household with supportive parents" but not at any point does the author describe the parents coming to see the daughter, Quinn, who has been in a coma for two months. After being in a coma for two months, you would think that the family would want the daughter to be staying with one of them, but the sister, Mallory, recommends that Quinn move in with a stranger. If one had been in a coma for two months, surely that person would want the comfort of living with their family or family members at least for an adjustment period and yet the character moves in with a complete stranger on the day she leaves the hospital. It seems pretty improbable. I did like the witch doctor and found her description amusing; however, when the witch doctor, through a ceremony, bonds Quinn to a ghost for the rest of her life, the story became too fantastical for me. Sommer Hines' narration is fine although her voice is so lulling that I would find myself drifting off to sleep and then I would have to rewind the story to hear the part that I had missed. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Baskerville Book Reviews

This review will contain a minor spoiler for the intro.

It took me a while to get into this book. Either I missed the character perspective change at the start of the book or it wasn’t obvious. Based on the series (Lowcounty Psychic) and the bit and the intro, I spent a good chunk of the story wondering if the protagonist’s sister was a ghost or not. I ended up pausing after 5 chapters, going to sleep, and returning the next day.

When I returned to this story, I was hooked. Sure, there were a few stupid moments along the way. When Quinn is clearly being followed by some creep, she neglects to tell anybody, worried about making a bad impression on her new boss. That good impression isn’t worth shit if you’re dead. She’s seeking a murderer who killed another woman, is being stalked, and then thinks it wise to not say anything!? WHAT!?

I found the ending to be utterly predictable. I can’t remember which story exactly, but I know I’ve seen that ending scene in another book I’ve reviewed. While I was waiting anxiously to see how things turned out, I was never worried that certain people were in danger.

I was hanging onto every word, wanting to know what would happen next. Despite the predictability of the plot and the idiotic choices of the protagonist, I still enjoyed this story quite a lot.

Overall, the narrator and the narration were excellent. Up until I had to listen to her say “acrosst” over and over. I seriously can’t stand when narrators add extra letters to words or make up new words in their narration. I will never stop ranting about how fucking annoying that is.

Well done supernatural suspense

I was given a copy of the audiobook by Story Origins. The narration was well done. Summer Hynes has a slow soft-spoken voice which is appropriate for a novel set in Savannah but she does not have a really heavy Southern accent. The story starts with a vision which is somewhat confusing until we see it for what it is. We meet Quinn as she has lost her job. She tries to save a dog from the road, is hit by a car and is in a coma for 2 months. Straight from the hospital she moves in with a man she doesn't know but has been at her side throughout her coma. This was the part of the book I had the most trouble with, but her sister trusted him and he had after all adopted the dog she had saved. The supernatural parts of the book were well done and believable, with visions, ghosts and old woman witch doctor in the Gullah tradition. The plot is well developed and has several twists and turns. I enjoyed the book. It is part of a series and I look forward to the next one.

Southern charm and suspense

This mystery has a charm of its own. Full of the supernatural and a southern charm with a dash of romance. I truly enjoyed it.

Great Paranormal Mystery Story!

This was my first C.J. Geisel's book, and won't be my last. This is the first book in the Lowcountry Psychic Series, a Paranormal Mystery Series. The characters are amazing, and well developed. The storyline is captivating, and thrilling, filled with mystery, twists and turns, and romance! Some scenes are scary! I love ghost stories! Sommer Hines did a great job with the narration. Looking forward to listening to Lowcountry Convictions, the next book in the Series.

Had some issues

Almost dropped the book soon after listening to it. I have a younger sibling, and moving in with a random guy you just met seems like danger zone. There were a few inconsistences in the story.

Other then those too things I enjoyed the story. The being able to talk to a ghost. The fight that showed her strength in the end.

I'm not a fan of ghost/spirit stories. But this one is well written, well told. Great characters. Great plot. Romance. Violence. An all around great listen.

Super Paranormal Murder mystery

When Quinn tries to rescue a dog from the road her life is turned upside down. Hit by a car she begins to see and communicate with a murdered girl and comes to the attention of the murderer. Excellent inventive storyline with great characters and a scary adversary. Lots of tension at the end, with a satisfying ending. I thoroughly enjoyable experience. The narration was very well done with a good range of voices and accents.. I received a complimentary copy from Storyorigin and am leaving a honesty voluntary review.

Great Audiobook

I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really enjoyed this story and thought the plot twists were amazing. Paranormal is my favourite genre but I have not listened to an investigative book with a paranormal twist like this before and was pleasently suprised. This was also the first audiobook I have listened to by this narrator and would gladly lisrten to another.
