Elaine is an orphan girl who has grown up in a world where magical ability brings power. Her limited talent was enough to ensure a magical training, but she's very inexperienced and was lucky to get a position working in the Great Library. Now, the Grand Sorcerer - the most powerful magician of them all - is dying, although initially that makes little difference to Elaine; she certainly doesn't have the power to compete for higher status in the Golden City. But all that changes when she triggers a magical trap....

Dave Smith is having a bad day, week, month, maybe even year. Freshly unemployed, facing eviction, and now he's been transported to a fantasy world. A wish come true for many a geek, if only he hadn't died less than a day after he arrived. Now trapped in this fantasy realms version of purgatory, he faces the prospect of trying to navigate a new existence as a dungeon. That wouldn't be so bad, except ending dungeons seems to be the path out for many of the other denizens of these Proving Grounds.

Just one semester until graduation, and I died saving a little girl. This wasn't the end, though, as a deity chose me to save another world. I woke up in the body of Kupiec Aiden, in a world where magic was real. Unfortunately, unlike many isekai novels I've read, I retained none of his memories, and had to learn everything. His family took me in, and I recovered from his sickness before learning about magic, or Aether as they called it.

She claims to know HISTORY!
Would you try another book from Christopher G. Nuttall and/or Tavia Gilbert?
Yes I would but I have been let down the last 4 times so I'm returning this book.
Would you ever listen to anything by Christopher G. Nuttall again?
See above.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Tavia Gilbert?
Sure.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger and Disappointment! The main character does not seem to be growing at all. She keeps making the same mistakes. She claims to know history but she flails to remember that real change takes time and fast change is history has always taken force.....meaning people DIE! She is the only person in the world who thinks the way she does but she wants everyone to just do things her way.

not youth fiction; annoying and directionless
And now we start with Earth's vulgarities. Heretofore, this had been pretty clean in language, but this volume has damn, sh%^, hell, and f*#, so it is even less of a youth book than it already was for its content. There is a lot of sex, it's not graphic, but they are always talking about it. Given the age of the protagonist, this should have been a good YA book, but parents beware.
And then there's chapter 20. OMG. The teenaged girl's angst written by a 35-yo man. On and on and on and on about how she doesn't love him, doesn't want him, but does she? Why does it hurt? Read this paragraph 20 times and you'll get the picture.
Combine that with her indecision about keeping the barony and you'll need a lot of deep breaths and eye rolls.
And then there's Lady Barb and others berating Emily for not knowing what she doesn't know. YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED!! How do you know to ask about what you don't know you needed to know?
There doesn't seem to be any direction to this story. It can't decide if it's Harry Potter or Dragonriders of Pern or Romeo and Juliet or sci-fi or what. Emily didn't do well in school on Earth, but she is able to outline steam engines and gunpowder, and has plans to build a computer. Seriously? You think she knows anything about how that works? It's still not clear why she thinks the introduction of gunpowder to this society is a good idea. And, speaking of gunpowder, how did they make their Mundane fireworks without it?
Did anyone else catch the mention of Col. Stalker in book 1? I keep reading these to see if they will get any better, or link up with the world that Stalker was exiled from, but my hopes are fading.
The narration is much better than when it started.

Stick up for yourself Emily
I'm waiting for the day when Emily tells all these adults who keep berating her for honest mistakes to stick it. I did not think well of Lady Barb for her tirade. Those who know of Emily's origins shouldn't be taking for granted that she would know any "basic" information about their land.

Not really feeling this story
There are times that I found this Emily character to be somewhat annoying and this book regrettably emphasis that fact. She supposedly does not want to be a Baroness yet she consistently uses the power of her position to change lives. Furthermore, she takes no responsibly in the care of said lands and yet again she uses the power of that title. I really hope this aspect her character changes.

If you could sum up Love's Labor's Won in three words, what would they be?
I love listening to these types of series at work, where I can block out noise and just listen to a great story. Please record the rest of the series- readers are left hanging... the narrator is great with the multiple characters. I remain in awe of people who can do this so well!
Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?
Tsvia is amazing. She is one of the best narrators and keeps my attention with her clearly voiced characters - how does she do it!
Any additional comments?
Please add the rest of the series -I'm hooked.

keep'em coming !<br />
I don't think I could call this series absolute favorite.
That said, I do have a bit of a slight addiction.
When I read the first book, I was just looking for a new series to read.
The first book finished. I thought OK, I'm willing to see how far Mr.Nuttall can take this idea.
That brings us to today.
I have finished book 6, Loves Labor's Won. I am now wondering if there's anything in Audible's power That could force Tavia Gilbert to read faster. Although, I know rushing a project can and will have an affect on the overall quality on the finished product .
THIS is a very good series.
Audible, KEEP'EM COMING.!

Amazing series!!!!
ok.... so i purchased this audiobook not realizing that it's not Book 1 in the series.... its actually book 6 !! and to make matters worse... audible only has books 1 to 7 in this series available. So, because of that mistake, when I listened to this book I was often unsure of exactly what was happening... notwithstanding, there was something about it which encouraged me to give it another try.... so i went to kindle to purchase the next book in the series and i don't regret my decision one bit! I'm in the process of finishing all of the books in the series! (12 so far)
a long time ago I was mourning the end of the Harry Potter series and i was googling alternatives.... and someone definitely mentioned this series!.... i can see why.... its definitely different and distinct but harry potter lovers will feel at home with this one!

Even better than the last - amazing
Just when you think that the schooled in magic books can't get any better the next book comes along and its even better than its predecessors.
I rate these right along side the Belgariad, and I never thought that I would say that about any book.

Twists and turns
I enjoyed the development of Emily through this story as she comes into adulthood and her responsibilities.
