Grief can be a hard thing to overcome. Sheldon Berotte has been grieving the loss of his wife for nearly twenty-five years, not giving another relationship a second thought. When she dies during childbirth, he is left to raise their five children, all under the age of ten, alone. His in-laws all live out of town, so help was minimal.

However, he stepped up to the plate and devoted his life to his children. Now that they are grown, they are worried about him. He has lost his ability to even entertain other people, nearly becoming a recluse. The only thing that gives him purpose is volunteering as security at one of the local high schools. Allowing his children to convince him into having a family barbeque, and them inviting some of their friends and their families, is the moment his life changes forever.

Anissa and Sheldon have immediate chemistry that he tries to fight. The feeling of guilt consumes him and threatens to destroy their future before they can even have a present. Can Sheldon let go of the torment guilt is putting him through and embrace the budding relationship between him and Anissa or will he allow her to slip from his fingertips?

A Nice Love Story

I loved both narrators. I loved the stories. It was story of hope and a second chance at love.

Second Chances for Grown-Ups

This was a realistic story for real grown people!! I loved the two-family dynamics. The daughter did the darn thing with Knowledge!! The lawyer son was the perfect storm, too. Dexter took so much more than he could ever repay. Anissa’s sons held a secret for a while! This brought into light the rights of women and their bodies. It’s amazing people think like this. I’m not a real fan of the male narrator because of sound. He did a good job with this, though. The female narrator did a good job, as well. I was left with a few questions. Is there a story continuation? Dr. Kimberly Waller

Already loved the book by listening it with book Bae, Winston James, took it to another level. 🥰🥰🥰 I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of this great fam's stories. And this was my first audio with J.Y. loved her voice! 🥰

Were they waiting too long?

Is there such thing as waiting too long or are you waiting for the right person? Both Sheldon and Anissa needed a companion to combat their woes and learn to enjoy life again. I'm sure some readers can relate to anxiety over loving someone new or even having a partner that turned to drugs. Very relatable context!

Relatable, Heart Felt & Beautiful Story

Ms. Monica...Baaayyy-beee, I know we just meeting...WE got issues, lady. #1 WHERE is the sequel to this story AND #2...I'm NOT reading/listening to "Hard To Love" out of sequence until the other books arrive.
OKAY now that I got that off my chest...Hey there🙂!
Miss ma'am...THIS story was written with so much compassion and care. This my first time with these narrators and your book. The narrators brought it to life for me. I enjoyed listening and felt the emotions.
My phone was on DND AND I "replayed" this book and unhealthy number of times 😉😍😉😍.
I was in my space high fiving, rewinding and laughing out loud with myself. I wasn't going to dinner or outside until I finished this book.
I appreciate your positivity and depiction of our community ESPECIALLY for the 50+.
There is LIFE for us after ANY circumstance particularly when our children are adults.
