Penta has finally reached the City — but not all doors open for the undead.

Survival alone would be a triumph in a place where vampires are outlawed and hunted in the shadows. But Penta is drawn into a web of political intrigue, strange alliances, and creatures unlike anything he’s faced before. As ancient powers stir beneath marble towers and bloodstained catacombs, Penta must navigate a world built to destroy him — and confront a challenge that could change the fate of Kinthur itself.

Thoroughly enjoyed this ride. Compelling story, GREAT characters, and a unique world. The narration was excellent, bringing LOTS of different characters to life with his many voices. Looking forward to future releases!

Unique take on a vampire story!

I entered this series with book 3, so my review is limited to information presented therein. It's fascinating to find a story that primarily focuses on profiling one specific character, especially when that being's class history prejudges them to be evil. However, the vampire of this tale only wants to fit in with society, at least as far as it will gain him residence in a comfortable neighborhood which he can call home. Nathan Nash performs admirably in describing the situations, troubles, and inner thoughts of the vampire while maintaining myriad voices of other secondary characters. The actions and resolutions play out much like a courtroom drama (and there are several of those in here) in that the pacing and intensity is fairly consistent and mostly presented in a flat tone. That's my one point ding under Overall. Other cast members include various non-human species, all with their own motivations and schemes to either accept or reject the vampire's petition to join the city. [Disclosure: I received this title for free and listened at 2.0x.]

I like how it wasn’t just an adventure story with some magic item or something. But more like a fantasy version of Sherlock Holmes or something. And the narration voices were a lot of fun.

I have found that when it comes to audio books the narrator can make or break it. Well, Nathan Nash nails it in Lord of the Dead! The story is a fun, easy listen; it is engaging & entertaining.
