Publisher's summary

It's official: excessive Internetting, smartphoning, and social media make us miserable. But it doesn't have to be that way. Over the last decade, recognized journalist Blake Snow rigorously researched, tested, and developed several connectivity strategies for finding offline balance in an online world, which resulted in this, his first book.

In Log Off: How to Stay Connected After Disconnecting, Snow passionately, succinctly, and sometimes humorously explains how to hit refresh for good, do more with less online, live large on low-caloric technology, increase face time with actual people, outperform workaholics in half the time, and tunefully blend both analog and digital lives with no regrets. If the "offline balance movement" is real, this is its playbook.

Timely Insights

About a year ago some of us were waiting for a plane to come in. (I’m in the airline business.) A co worker noted that we were all buried in our cell phones. “Look up”, he said, “lets talk to each other; let’s have a real conversation.”
That’s when I began noticing how I was using my electronic “device”. As it turns out the author of this book nails the problem with both good humor and science based evidence. He offers ways to determine whether our personal devices are sucking joy out of our lives and diminishing those who are right in front of us. He then offers ways we may correct our bad habits and enjoy life more fully. I, for one, am excited to start making big changes.

Great book, thought provoking!

Loved every minute of it! I highly recommend it for anyone that uses the internet on a daily basis. It was profound in a casual and entertaining way.

Super relevant and real

I really appreciated the honesty and self reflection this book provides. Because the author is so honest and self reflective it causes the reader to be as well. Reading this book was like holding up a mirror to my face on the actions I know I need to take to be a better husband and father. I won’t go as far as Blake Snow did but even through some of the smaller things he recommended, I’ve found great reward.

Simple But Sound Advice

Overall the book contains many useful tips even if you're not specifically aiming to cut off completely from your internet usage, as the author himself did and does still at times.

This book is solid for finding small tips here and there of what is readily available for limiting distractions when partaking in our hobbies and lives, and is delivered by a relatively dry but comfortable narration that I slipped into zoning out when listening on occasion! Big recommend if you have a few hours and find yourself chatting too much with online friends and being distracted with your own goals as I have.
