The first novella set in the universe of James S. A. Corey's epic Captive's War series.

Humanity's war is eternal, spread across the galaxy and the ages. Humanity's best hope to end the endless slaughter is the Livesuit forces. Soldiers meld their bodies to the bleeding edge technology, becoming something more than human for the duration of a war that might never end.©2024 Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (P)2024 Recorded Books

James A. Corey weaves believable characters and group interactions together like Tarantino. This novella hits a nerve at the intersection of the honor of military service and what it takes from you. I’m very much looking forward to reading more in the captives war series.

I would like to know more about what happened to the characters in the story.

I'm left wondering what I would do if I was the character in this story. To realize that everything the livesuit wearer are hoping for\dreaming of is a lie.

Haunting Ending

Livesuit takes everything I loved about The Mercy of Gods and turns the volume up. The tension is sharper, the stakes are higher, and the world—already rich and unsettling—grows deeper and more complex. James S.A. Corey doesn’t just continue the story; they evolve it, pushing characters into uncomfortable territory and forcing hard questions about survival, identity, and resistance in the face of overwhelming power.

Having read The Mercy of Gods first, I really appreciated how Livesuit stays true to the emotional throughline while broadening the scope. There’s more tech, more intrigue, and more of that morally gray complexity that Corey does so well. It’s cerebral and character-driven, but never slow—every chapter adds tension, insight, or heartbreak.

And once again, Jefferson Mays absolutely nails the narration. His voice is commanding yet intimate, with a remarkable ability to shift tone and character without breaking immersion. Whether it’s a quiet internal struggle or a massive battle sequence, he delivers with clarity, gravitas, and style. I can’t imagine anyone else narrating this content.

This is top-tier science fiction—ambitious, emotional, and unflinchingly smart. If The Mercy of Gods hooked you, Livesuit will blow you away.

An easy 5 stars.
