Laughter Academy is in trouble.

The student witches are growing increasingly reckless, preying on the mundanes below the mountains as their tutors plot and scheme to take advantage of the chaos. And no one seems to know why.

Emily is in no condition to intervene. But she cannot refuse. Heading to Laughter, Emily finds herself dragged into a world of schoolgirl games, staffroom politics, and a deadly plot aimed at the heart of the Allied Lands themselves....

I think it's written by a boomer

I've continued to follow this series despite my misgivings. though I'm not sure if I will continue it. It's misandrist, and just one bad political take after another. That's why I wonder if maybe Mr. Nuttall is just a boomer using the story to promote his paradoxically juvinile libertarian views. I'm starting to think that's the only point of the story. It's not all bad obviously, the story can at times be engaging but to be honest I originally chose the book for Tavia Gilbert and I while I know that Saskia Maarleveld is of course doing her best it's still just not the same. There should be a straight up ban on changing the narrator midstream barring some unavoidable circumstances such as the death of the original narrator. I suggest avoiding this series unless you feel like you need a little indoctrination today.

ehhh

there is enough LGBT content in this one to meet all the modern political requirements, but the plot is weak the performance is mediocre and it was overall a disappointment.

Awe man you know you need Lesbian man Hate!

Sigh... So without giving real spoilers...

Emily gets forced into teaching at the "laughter" school because plot and then it is all women who hate men because men genetically are the reason for all suffering for the world and women need to hate men and make an all women cult to protect them from men because men are EVIL!!!! Then women proceed to literally be worse than Hitler, and this is without a doubt written by a man. BUT MEN ARE EVIL!!!!! Not kidding you, the all women cult are out to kill all men everywhere and any that are not killed are enslaved because men are evil and need to be controlled by slavery and just breathing as a man is evil because MAN!

I cannot even begin to try and tell you how sexist this book is against men and it is written by a man. AND this book portrays women as man haters as a logical progression of ... no wait it isn't logical it just makes women out to hate men for no real reason other than ... nobody knows...
BUT MEN then sorry the 1% of men ARE GOOD!!!! and SAVE THE WORLD! but all 99% of other men are evil and are the source of all women problems!!!!!
And then Emily is screwed by all the women except like 1 but it doesn't matter and then deus ex machina win at end of story.

PS. Emily went weirdly from, OMG he is touching my boob it is RAPE in the last 19 books, to this book where "I hope he tries, not knowing if he will is the fun of it!!!!"..... WHAT?!?! Yeah that actually happens....
If you hate on men and just want to hate them this is a great book. If you like actually are a person this is rather sexist. Man hate for like 80% but then Man saves princess but is justified because of man hate! Then yes, as she AND I QUOTE "Positioned herself to be straddled!" By a man she doesn't really know! WTF is going on....

I miss Tavia Gilbert

the new reader makes Emily sound like her impersonation of male voices sometimes. There

Fantastic

Emily kicks butt in this book. We see her like never before finally growing into her power. A wonderful read that will keep your attention the whole way through.

wow. out of the gate.

I realize after about 20 books, so stories might start to get stale. And I realize that some of the books seemed to go nowhere, but this one grabbed me by the honches and didn't let go. I love the story and the ending was a total surprise. I realize I am not a fan of the performer, but still a great read.

Malevolent

Out of the 22 books in this series this has to be the darkest. While no spoilers the problems our Heroine face in this one are darker than any others on the unnamed world. very creepy

Quite confused.

Why oh why does he keep making Emily a stupid helpless little girl? I can't understand it and I hope it changes.
