The book that started it all! Little House in the Big Woods is the first book in Laura Ingalls Wilder's treasured Little House series, which is based on her life growing up as an American pioneer.

Told from four-year-old Laura's point-of-view, this story begins in 1871 in a little log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Laura lives in the little house with her Pa, her Ma, her sisters Mary and Carrie, and their trusty dog, Jack. Pioneer life is sometimes hard for the family, since they must grow or catch all their own food as they get ready for the cold winter. But it is also exciting as Laura and her family celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and treats, do the spring planting, bring in the harvest, and make their first trip into town. And every night they are safe and warm in their little house, with the happy sound of Pa's fiddle sending Laura and her sisters off to sleep.

And so begins Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved story of a pioneer girl and her family. The nine Little House books have been cherished by generations of readers as both a unique glimpse into America's frontier history and a heartwarming, unforgettable story.

This book… Oh my goodness… Where to start? Years ago I received this paper back book as a Christmas gift from my mom. I was an avid fan of the show Little House on the Prairie. I parked my little behind in front of the TV every Monday night and watch well behaved but spunkyLaura and overindulge spoiled and bratty Nelly Olsen go at it. The voice of reason was gentle blue-eyed smiling Michael Landon. He was the perfect Charles Ingalls. Karen was beautiful and played the gentle but firm Caroline Ingalls perfectly. Then I was bored one night and downloaded this book. I was transformed from my updated comfortable adjustable bed with my TV remote at my elbow and cell phone on my pillow to a time when life was simple. You had to take your letter into town and post it. There was no Snapchat or instant message. The Narrator was spectacular. And the fiddle playing really made this book phenomenal. Sometimes I felt like I was right there sitting by the crackling fire listening to the fiddle and I could almost hear the clicking of Carolyn’s knitting needles. I don’t care if you read this book before you need to download this title ASAP. Grab a grandchild or a child or read it by yourself. I promise you won’t be disappointed if you enjoyed the little house series. I don’t rate often but I had to leave this rating

Right there with Ma Pa Laura Mary and baby Carrie

I have not read these books since...well, in almost 50 years. What a delight as I'm just finishing up Book1, Little House in the Big Woods. I love Cherry Jones narration as she does little the girls, women and men's voices perfectly. What a delight! I plan to purchase the rest of the series...and I'm pulling my Little House set off the bookshelf, dusting them off and plan to thumb through to see the illustrations.

59 year old fan, just like when I was 10!

One of those already classic children's book that adults love too, then it comes to life with all the fiddle playing and superb reader. A true tale of settlers in early America threw the eyes of one of the children. It tells the course of a year for Laura's life and simplicity and delight in that wholesome world is a good read for all members of the family. Love it !

Classic comfort food....i mean book!
