Almost everything.
The night wasn’t nearly as dark as it should be. Jackson noticed the flickering lights in the windows almost immediately.
But not before his sister did.
More than once after that night, Jackson willingly admitted to anyone who asked that if it weren’t for his sister, everything could have ended in a completely different way. Without question, everyone…his brothers, his dad, and even Ally played an important role during their quickly planned, harrowing, and suspenseful escape.
But it was his sister who saved them that night.
There were still times when he wondered if his sister’s surprisingly accurate instincts might have made a difference on another dark night not too long afterwards. If the people who were lost that night might have survived and lived, instead of died, if she’d been there.
They’d never know. Unfortunately, the only man who had the answers to the intriguing mystery of who was ultimately responsible for the worst kind of betrayal died that night too.
Jackson never stopped looking for the answers they’d never found. His investigation became even more intense and determined each time he returned to the place where his sister had taken them that night…a long-forgotten rest-stop for weary travelers. The cabins were hidden deep in a thickly wooded forest, hemmed in by rolling hills. Each time he travelled to the small community to visit his family, he was inevitably reminded of everything they still didn’t know.
It was also inevitable that he’d see Ally during some of those visits.
As much as he could, he tried to avoid those somewhat uncomfortable reunions. She wasn’t the quiet and shy kid his younger brother and sister hung out with all those years ago…his brother’s life-long best friend. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d thought of her as a kid. But he had his reasons for keeping his thoughts and his feelings to himself…however well that wasn’t working out for him. It was a twisted kind of fate.
But this time when he returned to the cluster of cabins nestled among all the towering trees he knows that Ally is already there. This time he’d isn’t avoiding her. There weren’t going to be any carefully guarded secrets about anything. No surprises or half-truths. And God only knew she wasn’t going to be the least bit happy when she realized that he planned on sticking as close to her as glue.
He had his reasons.
This time, it was Ally who was being threatened.
Women’s mystery suspense and romance filled with heart-wrenching moments of spellbinding danger and intrigue, a compelling story of friendships that last a life-time, and a heartwarming sweet love story.
