Darrow returns as Pierce Brown’s New York Times bestselling Red Rising series continues in the thrilling sequel to Dark Age.

“The measure of a man is not the fear he sows in his enemies. It is the hope he gives his friends.”—Virginia au Augustus

The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains.

But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend.

The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

Great story so far but hearing other characters in “Darrow’s voice” is throwing me off. Disappointed with this. Considering refund.

Bring back other voice actors.

This is a satisfying Conclusion to the previous five novels. I did find some tonal inconsistencies between this book and the previous two. This book felt more tonally similar to the original three Red Rising stories, which I didn't count as bad per se but it was confusing going from the darker, more serious two novels to this.

I do not understand the decision not to bring back the ensemble narrators of the previous two books.

Tim G Reynolds is an excellent narrator, no doubt. If I rated the performance strictly on his talent it would be a 5. One of the best.

The problem is given that the other ensemble narrators were almost all very good, those characters voices are cemented in my perception, and so hearing Lysander and Virginia in Tim's voice and not their previous narrators was difficult for me.

It didn't really ruin from my overall enjoyment of the plot, but it did detract from the overall experience which was a bit of a let down.

The TLDR of it is: if you liked the last five books you should buy this one and you'll like it. There are some blemishes and imperfections and some choices I don't agree with, but overall, great ride.

Satisfying Conclusion but Narration Lacking

A good story but way too long. A series too long. Finally back to just Tim Gerard Reynolds is great though. Of course he did an outstanding job.

Too Long

I love the Red Rising series and the way the characters quote and sometimes talk like something you would read from Homer or Milton (that from any other author would be utterly pretentious, but it just works in this setting and is awesome). The twist, the turns are great and this book is no exception.

How does this one compare to the others? I’d say it’s not as good as Dark Age or Iron Gold. I don’t know if he will ever top Dark Age and I really liked seeing the working republic in Iron Gold and thought IG had a better ending climax as well. I also really missed the multiple narrators in the audiobook of Lightbringer as well. I’ve enjoyed all the multicast choices that were made for the two previous book and am a little disappointed they chose to go back to just one narrator. Still despite my complaints this book is something special and I can’t wait for the next one!

More Please!

No spoilers but what a roller coaster. One of my favorites of the series. Some of the twists were predictable but it made them so much more stressful to listen to. Loved it.

So very good
