This is the story behind the greatest manhunt in the history of Las Vegas …

In 1972, The Night Stalker took America by storm, becoming the highest-rated TV movie at the time and spawning a second movie and a cult series, all starring Darren McGavin. The story of a blood-sucking psycho on the loose in Sin City started with a then-unpublished novel by Las Vegas reporter Jeff Rice.

Now, after years of being out of print, Monstrous Books presents this restored version of the book that launched one of the most beloved and influential characters in TV history.

The book also features a foreword by David Dastmalchian (Late Night With the Devil, Count Crowley), an afterword by Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia), and a profile on Jeff Rice by Mark Dawidziak (The Kolchak Companion).

The story was lots of fun to read and it was well narrated. When I listened to the end of the book and learned about the author from the narrator, I found the book suddenly meant much more. I'm so glad I took the chance on this book and listened all the way through.

I am old enough to have seen the movie when I was fourteen and as I had been reading horror for several years, Poe, Bloch, and many others I found this a shining example of horror. Enjoy!

This book is unique and a great listen.

I remember the movies and series from my childhood. My unwitting introduction to horror at the age of 6-7 by older siblings who didn’t know they shouldn’t maybe let a little kid watch vampire stories… I really enjoyed this presentation and hope that someone will do a lasting meaningful reboot of this character. I can think of a few people who could pull this off(I’m looking at you Sam Rockwell). One of my favorite features of the story were the small nods to current events. Many of the same issues we’re struggling with today seem to be front and center.

Nothing Changes.

I was unfamiliar with Kolchak but I really enjoyed this book. The reader was amazing. I can’t wait for more from both writer and reader
