Publisher's summary

The second enthralling installment in the highly praised Conclave of Shadows series - an epic saga of adventure, danger, magic, and intrigue from the New York Times best-selling master

Rescued, recruited, and trained by the mysterious Conclave of Shadows, Tal Hawkins, hero of Talon of the Silver Hawk has become one of their most effective operatives. But to destroy the nemesis who annihilated his people, the evil Duke of Olasko, Tad must sell his soul. Masquerading as a noble from the far western territory of the Kingdom of the Isles, he must insinuate himself into the duke’s confidence and carry out his most heinous and dangerous commands - even though it means betraying his own moral code. Driven to the brink, Tal eventually defies the duke - and is imprisoned and left to die in the Fortress of Despair.

But the determined young man will not be beaten. Alone, armed only with his courage and wits, Tal makes a daring escape. Returning to Olasko, he will finally bring revenge on his hated enemy.

Outstanding

His books are such great stories to read or to listen too. The overarching story is excellent and fun to follow

Fiest story

it's another good Fiest story but a little bit too fast-paced and generic. But just a little

Couldn’t stop listening!

The story is amazing and the narrator is great no matter what anyone says. Yes, he pronounces some things in ways not used to but it doesn’t take away from his performance. The world is made life! The story is amazing and clever and well thought out. I haven’t been able to stop listening.

First is still amazing!

Great second book! Went to the dark side a little, but came out good with a happy ending and I'm the guy that still likes those. On to book 3!

Not the typical Feist fantasy, more a traffic coming off age adventure

Aside from the narrator, who has mispronounced many of the character names, and dialog a very enjoyable work. Perhaps my second favorite Feist novel to date after Magician.
