Great world introduction - I can see it going in multiple directions. Kudos for snagging John Lee to read!

Lovely writing

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would, this isn’t my usual genre. However, I’m glad I tried something new, with the exception of one thing. I wanted so badly for young Conrad to mature a bit and think for himself. The only thinking thing he did, in my opinion was his attempt at getting even with his adversary Mumford.

The book sailed by giving you a small taste of swashbucklers and the queens wishes to rid her kingdom of evil.

I can't wait to get the next book in the series. a really great listen.

I liked the book the characters were neither too smart or too stupid. They acted like how people normally would. World building was nicely paced. overall the story is nothing groundbreaking but the series is off to a decent start with a good balance of questions and focus on a goal.

the narrator was good and production had no obvious problems.

overall I would listen to it again when the series is finished but likely not before that.

Veery good plot line

Well thought out book and has a very good plot line. I enjoy character development more in books with action and this one moves pretty fast. No boring parts to have to force yourself to listen through. I would recommend this book and looking forward to the second book in the series.

Fantastic storytelling period

Been reading all of Duncan’s work and I have yet to be disappointed. Fantastic narrators too. I definitely recommend.

I can’t get over the accents he uses.

I love the story but I CANNOT continue in audio the accents he tries are not good. it is cringy. I liked Simon Vance he was amazing. If the accents are to represent a different region I get But they are bad and when the story had characters get to a village that is from one of the other books (won’t spoil ) does not match the accents used by Simon Vance and the accents that represent the area from the other books. Hoping the trilogy is redone together with simon vance. Can we get a redo This trilogy deserves better.

Another great start to a series

Loved the book, I just really would have appreciated no accents from John Lee, I’ve listened to many audible books narrated by him but this one was tedious to the point of irritation.
Please don’t use the accents in the follow up, or get Simon or Derek to narrate…

I read this book and about 24 hours when I went to go check and click on the series button on audible I was really disappointed that this was the only book that was released in the series. I put this writer in the top 10 writers of a red my life. I can't wait until the next book comes out!!!!!!
