Some think seeing into the future, even if it’s death, is a gift. For me it has always been a curse...After being sold to the highest bidder, a more ruthless monster than the one who controls me is looming. My life is on the razor’s edge of disaster and about to get worse until I’m broken free, aided by one of the most unlikely allies that roams the Wilds...now my new master is hunting me and the one I’ve trapped is all that stands between me and an existence more horrific than death.

Story
Amid the dizzying rides, tantalizing games of chance, and fanciful attractions of a state fair, two teenage sweethearts on the cusp of life and love's pleasures find their way to a shadowy carnival tent brimming with curiosities. There, from the bizarre and enthralling Gypsy Mummy, a mechanized merchant of dreams and prognosticator of tomorrows, the young couple learns what fate promises for them. But fate, for Odd Thomas and Stormy Llewellyn, is something altogether different: full of dark corners, sharp edges, and things no seer or soothsayer could ever anticipate.

Publisher's summary
Karma,. It's what they call me and the very essence of who I am. When I died young, I was recruited by the agency that keeps the universe running smoothly. As someone with a human past, most of my coworkers consider me inferior.
But not everyone. Something evil has been stalking me for centuries. It's been biding its time, waiting for the moment when it will strike, and it needs me to do it.
Its methods of recruitment are tearing apart every aspect of my life. I'm slowly losing myself, both mentally and physically. I don't know who I can count on, but I'm finding out how much I'm willing to sacrifice to save the ones I care about.

Monotonous. Still a whiney/argumentative character
The story is really a decent story and it's the only reason I continued listening. S much time as gone on in the story one would think the character would "get it " by now and quit whining and arguing with EVERYONE she comes in contact with. Also, the sexual tension and the feelings of "I cannot believe I am attracted to him but I am" the author tries to keep between the main characters is annoying and monotonous. It's too late for the author to read my pleas of "No more" but not too late for you to move on to the next book you may be considering.

Disappointing
The first book had enough of a unique plot and love hate relationship with the male and female characters that it was entertaining. Just be happy with the first book. Karma whinnied through out this book. To have been such a great attorney and take no shit kinda of girl she let herself get twisted in an infinite loop in this book. Metaphorically she kept hitting her head on the wall and watch that nothing changed. Her justification was she was saving /protecting the life of a friend.
Yet, each circumstance in, which she was faced with a dilemma to save her friend placed her with a similar dilemma moral decision about someone else. So through the book she is saving people, getting her butt whipped, still endangering the life of her friend and whining because for a smart woman she can not get out of that situation.
Why can't an author set up a unique scenario with cross lovers? We have the Fate, "I have to save yourself from you." Karma, who is so battered and busied that her life is in danger arguers "No you cannot help me. Let me go out and continue being stupid. I am killing myself to save my friend but I cannot tell you" So you then have a few hours of her being detained by him and then trying to lose him. Oh yea, because he is trying to save her life, and does not know her reasoning, she feels his actions (to save her)demonstrate that he does not love her. Hey he won't let he kill herself so he is a cad.
And to her mortification, her friend was tortured while she was trying to not kill someone as her nemesis wanted her to do. Other characters get play time but not enough. I love the triplets, jinks. At one point they tell Karma her antics were consumed with such bad luck that they could not have done any better. Fate's crew is funny. Now Fate has unfortunately been depicted and a brooding man with very little personality. I was screaming, "for Christ's sake tell her you love her already!" So between Faith and Karma this second book fell way short.
The series has such potential with all the interesting characters. It is unfortunate that we are stuck dealing with Karma and her twisted romance and misplaced morality within her current position.
Pass this one.I am returning it for my credit to try Donna Augustine's Alchemy series.
Oh the narrator, Angle Clark was bad. I know she did the last book. I had a tendency to tune out Karma whining. Clark's Karma and Fate voices were so alike I could not tell when the character changed.

Jinxed
When her friend, Kitty, goes missing and everyone thinks she “retired” to death, Karma knows the truth. Only Karma can help her escape her capture. Yet the captors have Karma by the strings. With no way to get Kitty and knowing she can’t ask others for help, Karma is in way over her head.
Opinion
1. Don’t jump into the series out of order. Read Karma first or you will be confused over what’s going on in different parts.
2. This book was awesome. I truly was at a loss for how Karma was going to pull it off. I could see her spiraling downward with no hope of getting Kitty safe and sound and getting herself out. The suspense in this book is engrossing. I couldn’t wait for the next part of the plot to thicken to see how deep her troubles went and how she was going to climb out.
3. I listened to the audiobook. The reading was superb. Different characters had different voices (same narrator, voice thrown.). The voice was a nice fit for the characters and the reading was smoothly delivered. There was one place where I suspect the editing team (or someone else maybe) failed to edit right and a sentence was cut off then reread completely. Overall, that did not affect the overall performance as I sometimes have to reread a sentence because of outside disturbances.

Surprising not bad
I'm a PNR junkie and am very critical of the books that I run across. They are usually formulaic tropes or something very cool and original, so I usually have about a 50/50 shot of liking the book and having not read the first book in this series, I was pretty resigned to not liking this one but the narration was very good and after a few chapters I was able to figure out what was going on and enjoyed the ride enough that I purchased book 3 before book 2 even ended. It's definitely a different twist on a slice of PNR that isn't explored in this same manner. Very original 👍

Karma can be a bummer
Would you listen to Jinxed again? Why?
I liked the story, I really did but the narrator is not my favorite. I would probably listen to it again because I did like the story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Jinxes ... they crack me the hell up.
What aspect of Angel Clark’s performance would you have changed?
ALL OF IT
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
The book was pretty long, so one sitting is a bit much. However, I was eager to get back to the story each time.
Any additional comments?

Mixed Feelings
Action packed with a lot happening. A strong plot with some dark torture scenes, however a bit disappointed in the lack of character development with Karma. She is still as stubborn and refuses to accept help at every opportunity, which resulted in constant failures to save Kitty and the spiralling end to her confidence and ability to think logically.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Kept me enthralled
Would you listen to Jinxed again? Why?
Yes
Who was your favorite character and why?
Fate, because he has integrity and what you see, for the most part, is what you get. No falseness.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book. It continues on from book #01, following the journey of Karma, both in the storyline and her as a character. Many of the other characters play a part such as Fate, Lars, Patty, Luck, Murphy, Harold and Kitty. I found that the storyline progressed in an interesting way with different twists, but nothing really unexpected. I continue to not really like Karma as a person, as I feel my assessment of her from book #1 about being an unreliable judge of character was accurate, but her personal growth in this story has me not disliking her as much as the first. There were many times I wanted to say to her "just move on", as I do find her quite whiney/whingey type of person. However, I found this story really enthralling that I wanted to know what was going to happen next i.e. what arrogrant decision was Karma going to make next. I really look forward to the next book in the series.

Story
A new urban fantasy featuring a man working on the right side of the law - with talents that come from left field. Psychometry - the power to touch an object and divine information about its history - has meant a life of petty crime for Simon Canderous, but now he's gone over to the good side. At New York's underfunded and (mostly) secret Department of Extraordinary Affairs, he's learning about red tape, office politics, and the basics of paranormal investigation. But it's not the paperwork that has him breathless.

Story
Two days before the start of her junior year, 17-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit by a pickup truck and killed - as in blinding light, scenes of her life flashing before her, and then nothing. Except the next thing she knows, she's opening her eyes to find Ben Michaels, a loner from her high school whom Janelle has never talked to, leaning over her. And even though it isn't possible, she knows - with every fiber of her being - that Ben has somehow brought her back to life.
