In this book, author Ian Carroll takes the listener back to the very beginning of the conflict some 4,000 years ago, then moves through the major events of the Middle Ages and 20th century, and brings us right up to the present day, documenting the significant events that have happened along the way. The listener is allowed to make up their own mind as to where praise and condemnation belong with this complicated issue.

From Exodus to the birth of Jesus, from Islam to the Crusades, through the Diaspora and up to the recreation of the modern state of Israel and beyond, Israel and Palestine: The Complete History avoids a dry academic approach. It aims to tell the history of the region and peoples in a balanced and brisk fashion, from a storyteller’s perspective.

With talk of a Third Intifada and the introduction of the Nation-State Bill all bringing this age-old issue to the forefront of world news once more, there has never been a more appropriate time to understand and appreciate Israel and Palestine’s history.

Unbiased historical overview of the region and cultures leading up to and including Israeli and Palestinian conflicts

This was a good overview starting from ancient history which is necessary since the context for the region started thousands of years ago. It’s fairly unbiased which is important for those looking to develop their own opinion based on historic facts.

It’s alright

The narrator is irritating.
The time line jumps around.
The story could be condensed.
Educational though.
I appreciate the knowledge.

I was curious about the history of Israel and Palestine. This book was easy listening, informative and I would highly recommend.

Very informative and detailed. Provides an unbiased historical account of how the region was shaped.

Excellent overview of the conflict 

A seemingly balanced overview of an intense subject. I am embarrassed to say I had a very low level working knowledge of the Palestinian and Israeli conflict.  this book has, in my opinion, presented both sides of the long-standing issues from early roots to present day.  I wish I could say I am walking away with greater clarity on possible solutions… But as history has told us, this answer has elluded man since the creation of the state of Israel.  Well worth the read .

Israel and Palestine

A uniquely unbiased story of the history behind all the headlines. I have heard stories of the conflict all my life and recognize the names of all the players. To put everything into a chronological perspective really helps to understand how this all started and where we are today. Until there are two nation states that recognize the right to exist of each other I see no end to the conflict.

Great description about the conflict of the two nations

I found the book to be very informative about the issue of the two nations. The initial origins of the two nations was for me the most important aspect to understand. Upon understanding the origins, every sequential action by each nation became very easy to understand. I find this book very useful in learning how today’s problems came to be, and I recommend everyone in the western part of the world to read this book if you want to learn more.

Biased and one-sided

This book is a good listen and historically informative. But it’s wildly biased against Israel. The Jewish perspective is always presented as terroristic while Palestinians are always freedom fighters. Trudging through the nonsense became very tedious, but I got to the end.

I was looking for a book with a clear overview of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.

And wow!! I picked a good one. The author is a story teller, not a historian, but I think that’s what helped me stay focused and engaged in listening. I have gained a much better understanding of the conflict. Although I feel I’ve lost hope that it will ever get resolved without some help from God himself. I highly recommend this if you want to know where it all started and how it’s gotten to where it is today. Great narration, and it felt very unbiased.

Thorough history

This was a very thorough and unbiased treatment of complicated subject matter. Everyone is treated fairly.
