Publisher's summary

Have you struggled to keep food down for several months now? Do you remember the last time you ate without feeling weighed down and guilty? When was the last time you looked in the mirror without grimacing? I can help you.

This audiobook is dedicated to those suffering with an eating disorder called bulimia nervosa. I am writing based on my experience with the disease. The personal accounts within this audiobook can aid in identifying and overcoming this disorder. Too many teen girls walk the halls of school living in their heads and starving their bodies. This audiobook can help you to see the beautiful girl in the mirror, enjoy food again, and begin talking about your feelings without fear of judgment.

Twenty years ago, I was caught in the grips of bulimia nervosa. The disorder made me feel as though I had an anchor inside of me. I stood at five feet two inches, weighed 92 pounds, and wore a size zero in jeans. I will relate to you within this audiobook the ways to beat this eating disorder.

Eating disorders can take their toll on you, your relationships, and your life. I have created this audiobook as a guide for you to find an outlet for your thoughts, coping mechanisms for your stress, and a way forward in your daily interactions with family, friends, and peers.

It is important to understand this disease is not attention seeking, but instead a reaction to overattentive environments. If you listen to this audiobook, you will find tips and guides to cope with school, sports, family, and friends. It is not easy being a teenage girl, especially in high school. This guide serves to help navigate the daily pressures young women are under in their everyday lives.

Today, we find ourselves interacting more through mass media and phone applications than on an individual level. It would be nice to be able to sit down and have a sincere talk about our feelings, relationships, and classes. Instead, daily, most are fighting for “likes” and approval of their surrounding groups.

Can you honestly say you like the people you are around? Are you friends with each other, or is it safer to be bored in a group than to be bored alone? I can show you the way forward. I can help you out of this self-destructive cycle you have fallen into.

Within Inner Anchor, you will discover:

  • Ways to improve your self-esteem through self-reflection
  • Tips to eat full meals three times a day without feeling guilty
  • Open communication with your parents about your feelings
  • Improve communication with your siblings about your daily life
  • Improve communication with your friends about your true self
  • Open your daily schedule to new opportunities with new friends, activities, and groups
  • Who you were before people told you who you were

When struggling with bulimia, the world can feel like a fishbowl with no way out. The fixation on weight, the positive attention accompanying a tiny waist, and the superficial interactions of daily life can feel like living under a microscope. Exploring the possibilities of making new friends, joining new groups, and trying new sports is what overcoming this eating disorder is all about.

The ability to move forward from external opinions and truly see your value in the mirror instead of the numbers on the scale is what this audiobook is all about. I understand the struggle. I see you and understand you.

The book for anyone with Bulimia nervosa

I enjoyed this book and found the information current and easy to read (listen to as well). Chapter 6 was probably my favorite, "Steps Toward Peace," as she provided excellent tips and suggestions to manage Bulimia, all backed by science papers etc. I recommend this book to anyone who is suffering from or knows someone who could benefit from the info contained within.

Compassionate

And resourceful. The narrator spoke directly to the teen and reassured them that they can overcome this. This was heartfelt and I think a good help to teens in this position. The book had many good tips and strategies for persevering.

Well Written

The author does a beautiful job of writing about such a hard topic. Hard for the one suffering and hard for the family members. Shannon does a great job pulling from real life examples and stories so the reader feels less alone and more comfortable. Teens who suffer with this feel a great amount of shame, guilt and anxiety. I thought the tips on eating meals as well as communication with those closest to you were very valuable.

Insightful And Timely!

In this beautifully narrated audiobook, the author describes the harrowing experience of suffering Bulimia Nervosa as a teen (she has lived it!). She vividly explains the shame, fear, and isolation of bulimic teens and offers several practical, actionable strategies to cope and recover, including journaling, exercise, meditation, group therapy, and even music therapy. ALL teens should give this treasure a listen, especially in the modern digital world where Social Media and hype have outpaced connection and belonging.

A must read for young ladies who suffer

As someone who suffered from various eating disorders as well as low self-esteem, I can attest that this book is one of the best I've read to help win the battle with bulimia nervosa. The author lived through it so it feels like you're talking to a friend. A wide range of useful tips are given: how to eat healthy and without guilt, how to express your feelings, how to communicate with parents, and much more. it's so sad that modern society puts girls in a position of constant comparison and trying to live someone else's life. I highly recommend this comprehensive guide to healthy life and self-love for young ladies.
