Publisher's Summary

Through her own gripping story of escape from human trafficking, Rebecca Bender reveals the inner workings of the underground world of modern-day slavery and helps us learn how we can be a catalyst for change where we live.

Born and raised in a small Oregon town, all-American girl Rebecca Bender was a varsity athlete and honor-roll student with a promising future. Then a predator pretending to be her boyfriend lured her into a web of lies that sent her down a path she never imagined possible.

For nearly six years, Rebecca was sold across the underground world of sex trafficking in Las Vegas. She was branded, beaten, told when to sleep and what to wear, and traded between traffickers. Forced into a dark sisterhood, Rebecca formed bonds with her trafficker and three other women, creating a false sense of family. During that time, God began revealing himself to her. And in the midst of her exploitation, she found the hope she needed to survive.

After a federal raid, Rebecca escaped. Her life was forever changed as she felt the embrace of her heavenly Father guiding her to healing and wholeness. Rebecca soon began to use her own experiences to change the lives of others as she went back into the darkest places she had known - assisting FBI, VICE, and law enforcement across the country in some of their most difficult cases.

Through Rebecca's incredible story of redemption, we remember that our past does not have to determine our destiny.

INSULTING to ACTUAL Human Trafficking Victims

I read this book because it was recommended to me by a family member. As someone who was violated against their will at a young age, I am very sympathetic towards other victims. However, after reading her book, I find her claim of being trafficked insulting. She reminds me of a teenager who intentionally jumps off a roof, and then claims victimhood when they hit the ground and break their leg.

In this book, the author had a manipulative boyfriend who said he loved her and said he needed her to help with the bills. Morally, she was hesitant but ultimately agreed to become a high-class escort. She found out early on he had other women and he physically abused her, but she stayed because she loved him. Is that sad? Of course. Is that the same as human trafficking, absolutely not!

She was not forced into the life. She could have left at any time. Her loving parents were literally only half a day's drive away. Heck, her mother even came and took the author's child to her own house so the author could get her life back together. The author made bad decisions which led to a terrible span of time in her life. Sad, yes. Was she the victim of a bad boyfriend? You could certainly say that. No one deserves to be abused and used. However, it doesn't change the fact that she CHOSE her path, and kept making the wrong choice every single step of the way. To equate your own bad decisions with actual victims of human trafficking who are forced into different forms of slavery against their will... Insulting!

Some people might justify it by playing very loosely with the definition of human trafficking, but I don’t think that is fair to the real victims who were literally forced against their will. I think the ”Trafficking” in the title is a marketing ploy to sell the book, nothing more. If you want real stories of human trafficking and the heroes who are doing something about it, look up Tim Ballard; founder of Operation Underground Railroad.

A good read but

The book was an amazing story of a survivor. It also was a lot about God as well. Which is not a bad thing at all just not what I was looking for. Came across as a little preachy which is what the author I assume was looking for. So if your into that a good read for you.

Amazing story of redemption

Rebecca’s story is horrific, yet incredible. Seeing God work through her brings hope to the most hopeless situations. I am in awe of her courage and strength to not only tell her story, but to help others.

Moving and impossible to put down

This book is beautifully written and incredibly moving. I could not stop listening to it. Rebecca’s story is heartbreaking but shows how amazing God is at turning ashes into beauty. I was brought to tears many times. The world is definitely a much better place with Rebecca Bender in it. Thank you for continuing to share your story and fight for the forgotten and abused.

Difficult to hear but worth it

I almost put this down after three chapters,
but hung in there. Incredibly tragic story with good outcome. Not what you think.

Learned a lot

I got confused as it seemed as though she were hopping around from story to story, place to place. I did learn a lot about trafficking, abuse and brainwashing. Proud of her for finally giving her life to the Lord!

I am sooo thankful!

My mind has been struggling for years now with acceptance of what the truth is about what has gone on through my life. I through myself into recovery looking for answers, relating to story after story and thinking to myself, “ Why didn’t I know? “ the more stories I hear the more chances I have of telling my own story. I appreciate all the work you have done Rebecca, Jesus led me to your work and He continues to Lead me even through your work. Thank you!

Thank you Rebecca Bender for growing our survivor movement!

Enduring this amount of violence for so long and surviving this trafficking torture is nothing short of a miracle. The strength and conviction that Rebecca Bender has in multiplying the positive impact of her recovery journey from trauma is SO inspiring for me, also working to combat trafficking and prostitution abuse in my adopted country, Australia.
