Publisher's summary

The national exposure of the Lee Acker case put the trial skills of Maggie Reynolds on full display. Now she is intent on pursuing more profitable victories in the courtroom. Leaving behind her work as a criminal defense lawyer, Maggie is hot on the tail of her highest-profile job yet: a personal injury case with the potential for an incredible paycheck. Maggie hopes that a win will give her the recognition that she deserves.

But when Blake County native Charlotte Acker is accused of murdering Lucy Kelley Collins, the wife of a Georgia senator, Maggie is pulled back into the world of criminal defense.

Charlotte's guilt seems undeniable. Her hatred of the victim is well-known, a product of bitter and longstanding tensions between the Acker and Collins families. In a case that appears to be open-and-shut, Maggie must unravel the complicated history between the two families in order to clear Charlotte's name.

Torn between the lucrative payout of a personal injury case and the satisfaction of a career-defining murder trial, Maggie must reconcile her ambitions with her calling.

Contains mature themes.

Grateful

It’s a dream to get to share a book with readers and a wonderful audiobook is just another great way for people to enjoy a story. Thank you Lary Rosenblatt, Tantor Media, and Severn River Publishing for helping make this happen. My hope is that readers enjoy this second installment from my series of Blake County Legal Thrillers.

Ahhhh!

The end left hanging and didn’t conclude an important piece of the story. Want to know how that piece concluded. Ahhhhh!

Picked up where are the author’s first story ended

I was glad there was another volume available for this author, after having finished his first book.
I appreciated the explanations of legal proceedings, although some who are already familiar with this may find that to be unnecessary.
I enjoyed the further development of many characters that were introduced in the author’s first book.
My only complaint would be that this particular story seemed to have ended rather abruptly. Most books like this will have an epilogue where you get a glimpse into how things ended up for some of the characters. That was not the case with this book, which would be my only complaint. It left me feeling like the story wasn’t fully complete. Maybe we were left hanging just a little bit because there will be another volume coming?
Overall, though I thought it was quite a good story, and I listened to it in it’s entirely over the course of just a couple of days.

Great series

I thoroughly enjoy the characters, and the legal narrative. The judicial system is complex. I appreciate the author’s efforts to inform and clarify the terms and process. Without compromising on quality, please hurry with the next installment of Charlotte’s story.

Interesting story!

The plot and characters quickly caught my interest. I usually enjoy a well written legal mystery/thriller, and this was one of them. Excellent narrator as well. I'm on to the next book in this series.

New Favorite Audiobook Series

I downloaded my preorder of In Defense of Charlotte on the day of the legal thriller’s release. A true page turner, err, track turner. I listened into the night. After awakening, I listened to the well crafted ending. This book left me wanting more. Eagerly waiting on the next book in the series.

Excellent small town story.

Small towns, high school loves, and floundering finances are a wonderful stage for murder. This story has it all.

Enjoyed legal aspects

More courtroom scenes and legal analysis than previous book. Plot was predictable and book ended abruptly.

Meh

I hate that I have to waste 15 words on a book that wasted 10+ hours of my life.
