A mother begins to challenge everything she’s been told about her daughter’s murder in a shocking novel of suspense by a New York Times bestselling author.

Ten years after her daughter, Melanie, was murdered, Bree Winter is finally moving on with a new love, a new home, and a new beginning. Then a deathbed confession from the convicted killer throws Bree’s life into a tailspin all over again. He readily confesses to murdering four girls. But not Melanie.

At first, Bree and her ex-husband don’t buy a word of it. Until inconsistencies about the crime emerge. So does the dreadful feeling that the monster who shattered Bree’s family isn’t lying. The only way she can get to the truth is to power through the trauma and return to the town in upstate New York where Melanie’s life came to a brutal end.

Bree will do anything to find justice for her daughter and finish this nightmare forever. Instead, it’s just beginning. Not only could the real killer still be in their midst, but as Bree begins to dig through Melanie’s past, what she discovers calls into question everything she has believed—about the crime and about Melanie herself.

Reseñas de la Crítica

I Came Back for You is an elegant and gripping whodunit as much as it is a moving deep dive into love, grief, and a mother’s search for justice. Kate White brings her formidable talent to bear in this haunting, unputdownable novel. I read it in one sitting and can’t stop thinking about it.”—Lisa Unger, New York Times bestselling author of Close Your Eyes and Count to 10

“In I Came Back for You, Kate White delivers a quietly explosive mystery about a daughter’s final days through the eyes of a mother desperate to understand the daughter she lost. Bree returns to the place she hoped never to see again, chasing answers about her daughter’s death—and the version of the young woman she never got to fully know. What follows is a taut, deeply felt whodunit filled with grief, reckoning, and painful truths that come to light only when it’s too late to ask the questions. A five-star story that lingers.”—Kimberly Belle, international bestselling author of The Expat Affair

“A heartbreaking premise, a deeply emotional story, and an intense ride through one mother’s nightmare, I Came Back for You is a whip-smart thriller from the amazing Kate White. With characters so alive they leap off the page, the story is sharp, sophisticated, and full of intrigue. A fabulous read from the unsettling opening to the explosive end.”—J.T. Ellison, New York Times bestselling author of Last Seen

The narrator was perfect, and the storyline was captivating. I wasn't able to figure it all out until almost the very end. Perfect level of suspense. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I read some negative reviews so I went in apprehensive but I absolutely loved this book. I don’t regret giving it the time!

Bree has spent the last 10 years trying to rebuild her life after her college age daughter was murdered in rural New York. Finally finding a semblance of happiness in a South American country far, far away from the where her life fell apart, Bree struggles with returning "home" for a brief celebration of her daughter's life.

Making matters more difficult, the convicted murderer who was thought to be responsible for Melanie's death despite never being convicted of that particular crime, claims on his deathbed that she wasn't one of his kills.

Having always been uneasy about the events that unfolded around her daughter's death, Bree takes the opportunity to explore all questions and people from that time.

The detective from Melanie's case reexamines with renewed interest the details due to the convicted claims. Ten years is a long time to try to get to the bottom of truth, but with Bree's determination and the detective's willingness to entertain that they might have been wrong since there never was a conviction things are revealed have been long hidden.

Dealing with her former husband's current partner who played a huge part in their separation only adds to the stress of the situation. Being away from the support of her own partner is an added strain. Unsure of who to trust when it comes to revealing the truth and revealing events of the past that were hidden, Bree finds herself in a twisting and turning present with a killer who doesn't want to be found.

Will the truth achieve a peace for Bree or will it strain an already tenuous relationship with Sebastian half a world away?

I never expected the outcome and why the actual killer killed Melanie. It was satisfying that after 10 years justice was finally served and a peace to a certain extent was acheived.
