You let her in. Was that your first mistake?

Stranded in Paris during an air traffic crisis, Laura offers to share her hotel room with a young woman who seems lost and alone. It’s a split-second act of kindness—one any good mother would make. But as the girl slips away at dawn, Laura feels a whisper of unease.

Weeks later, as her precious family is targeted one by one, Laura’s ordinary life completely unravels and she can’t shake the feeling that everything leads back to that night.

Suddenly she’s in a police cell, the main suspect in a serious crime. But what has she done to deserve this? Laura must battle to unlock the secret behind this darkest of nightmares, while trying to save her family.

If she fails, will it all be her fault?

Ouch, ouch, ouch.

Although I enjoyed the early "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" suspense hook, the book's timelines and character perspectives were jumbled, disjointed, and dizzying.

Many characters and plotlines were unrealistic and unbelievable.

I am a huge Teresa Driscoll fan, so perhaps my expectations were set too high.

Technically a standalone novel, several characters from Driscoll’s previous books (such as DI Melanie Sanders and a kidnapped girl) made significant appearances, so reading the author's earlier books is highly recommended.

Although the narration was superb, the book unfolded from multiple POVs and would have benefited from a full-cast narration.

Not Teresa Driscoll's Best Book....

thriller, it felt very predictable and never quite built the tension I was hoping for. The story had the ingredients for something gripping, but it kind of fell flat along the way.
I did appreciate the way the mother was portrayed and how fiercely she tried to protect and take care of her family. That part felt genuine and was the most compelling aspect of the book for me. Unfortunately, the rest of the plot moved in a way that felt a little slow and, honestly, a bit boring for a thriller.
Not a bad read, just not one that wowed me or kept me on the edge of my seat.

ehh jusy ok

Very well written and read. Very hard to put down. Easy to get wrapped into

I like the twists throughout this book

One of my favorites on 2026 so far. You are unsure the whole time exactly what is happening and how it is connecting but in the end it all comes together masterfully

Loved
