Publisher's Summary

Pike Logan tracks highly-trained Russian assassins to Brazil in this blistering, action-packed thriller from New York Times best-selling author and former Special Forces Officer Brad Taylor.

Pike Logan and the Taskforce were once the apex predators, an unrivaled hunting machine that decimated those out to harm the United States, but they may have met their match. While Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill prepare to join their team on a counter-terrorist mission in the triple frontier - the lawless tri-border region where Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay meet - they are targeted in Charleston, South Carolina. A vicious explosion kills a friend, and the perpetrators have set it up to look like an accident. While the authorities believe this was not foul play, Pike knows the attack was meant for him.

When he loses contact with the team in South America, Pike is convinced he and the Taskforce are under assault. His men are the closest thing to family that Pike has, which means he will do anything, even ignore direct orders to stand down, to find them. Pike and Jennifer head to Brazil to investigate their disappearance, and run headlong into a crew of Russian assassins. Within days, they are entangled in a byzantine scheme involving Brazilian politics and a cutthroat battle for control of offshore oil fields.

Forged in combat, the Russians are the equal of anything the Taskforce has encountered before, but they make a mistake in attacking Pike’s team, because Pike has a couple of elite Israeli assassins of his own. And Pike will stop at nothing to protect his family.

This might just be the best in the series!!!!

This book is smoking! It starts out at Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill’s home in Charleston, SC. Their friend and mentor offers to go to the grocery in Pike’s place. Pike gives him the keys to his vehicle which promptly explodes as soon as the key is turned. Pike is convinced the bomb was meant for him. Nobody else agrees.
It appears the Russians are hunting down the task force and Pike is off on a rogue mission to stop them before they can get anyone else. Once out of the country the Syrian girl he’s been caring for is targeted and cornered in a safe house with her nanny.
The character development is outstanding as are the relationships between the characters. You get a real sense of family ties between the members of the task force and those they are close to. Because Pike has an almost wife and something of a daughter he really looses his mind when either is threatened (and of course both are).
There is plenty of action in this book. There is also nonstop betrayal , conspiracies and globe trotting.
Rich Orlow does an outstanding job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Another Brad Taylor winner!

Author Brad Taylor's decision in the Exit Fee novella released in October 2019 to make the 13 year old Syrian refugee girl Amena a part of the Pike Logan series is an excellent one. Amena was introduced in Daughter of War which was Book 13 in the Pike Logan series.

HUNTER KILLER is Book 14 in the Pike Logan series. The novel will likely get some criticisms for making Logan too much of a superman type character. Although I can see the reasons for such criticism I disagree. Much of this novel is set in Brazil where Russia is seeking to take over the oil industry (and the Brazilian presidency). The audio novel is not especially long at 11.5 hours but it does have multiple plot lines each having its own building of suspense. Overall it is a marvelous novel. The Taskforce members are all present including the Mossad pair who now seem full members of the team.

The first 12 novels in the series used two narrators usually with Henry Stozier doing the third person narrating and Rich Orlow being the first person Pike Logan. The two most recent series novels utilize Orlow for all of the narrating. I prefer the Stozier-Orlow duo to the current Orlow only narrations and wish the series would return to the two narrator format.

I rate HUNTER KILLER 5 stars, but in my view Brad Taylor remains second tier among current espionage thriller authors clearly behind Mark Greaney, Ben Coes, jack Carr, and Kyle Mills/Vince Flynn. Nevertheless, I strongly recommend the Pike Logan series.

Best one yet!

I’m a huge fan and this didn’t disappoint, not at all! If you like the previous ones then this is a step up. Mr. Orlow has hit his stride and he IS Pike Logan! Well done by both author and narrator! Can’t hardly wait for the next one!

Best Book Yet!

Brad Taylor has the ability to write what people honestly think and would actually say and do. He has developed characters that work so well together in his books. Each character brings so much in every storyline that I find myself hoping to see them in every book. They are a family in the books and become our extended families as we read.
One of my favorite lines in Hunter Killer is when the Sec State comes up to Pike after his Principles meeting and Pike thinks to himself, "You better step up your game because there is a Petrobras chick that will close the deal with Knuckles as soon as she can breathe without a tube." I couldn't stop laughing at that! Even though I'm an older woman, I grew up with 3 older brothers and have 2 adult sons, and know comments and thoughts like this are normal and not just from men but from us women as well! It is just so great to read writing like this! It makes me smile!
I am already looking forward to Brad's next book!

Best in the series

The best in the series with enough action to satisfy most listeners.

Character development continues and the human side comes out of two characters that seem not not be human.

I won't give any of the story away but it was one that I couldn't stop listening to.

Suspend disbelief

Pike described one course of action as feasible for Jason Bourne, but not real people. I felt that way about Pike and his team. There was a lot of action, but little of it realistic.

What US President would have a group working for him that might become irrational with anger, and go off reservation in violation of orders. Pike also had no reservations about murdering an unarmed captive or for revenge.

Reasonably good story…

The opening of the book gave me pause - it sounded like a no-character-development-rapid-action book. Fortunately it is much better than that. My problem, and the main reason fir a mediocre rating, is that I can’t accept the extreme latitude of operation granted to the black-ops team characters. There is always a lot you have to accept for any of these ‘super hero - kill the bad guys and not get injured yourself’ stories, but the attitudes and latitude in this book really strained credulity.
I had read/listened to the prior book in this series, and I found that very helpful in understanding the characters and the many references to that storyline. It isn’t required to read these books in order, but it is definitely helpful.
