Publisher's summary

Celebrating the 75 anniversary of the original landmark bestseller How to Win Friends and Influence People, comes an up-to-the-minute adaptation of Carnegie’s timeless prescriptions for the digital age.

Dale Carnegie’s principles have endured for nearly a century. Since its original publication in 1936, his timeless classic How to Win Friends and Influence People has gone on to sell 15 million copies. Now, introducing new listeners to Carnegie’s words of wisdom, comes How to Win Friends and Influence People in the Digital Age, a new guide for a new era.

Dale Carnegie could never have predicted the trajectory that new media would take, and the ways that the simple television screen would be adapted into computers and handheld communication devices. He didn’t know the term “social media” and Facebook was something not even dreamed of in Buck Rogers cartoons. And yet his lessons remain relevant for everyone who communicates online today. In fact, with problems such as cyber bullying and email etiquette, we need Carnegie’s help more than ever. Dale Carnegie and Associates, Inc. has re-imagined Carnegie’s lasting lessons for this difficult digital age, reframing Carnegie’s insights about communication, self-expression, and leadership. This book is a must-have guide for anyone who wants to find success on Facebook, Linked-In, Twitter, and any social media format today and in the future.

As titled, it brings the orig. to the digital age.

Having read the original how to win friends, I noticed several of the exact same stories and lessons from the original text. Still they are certainly adequate stories that are appropriate for the lessons being taught. Well written and informative. But the main theme i got is if you wouldn't say it to your mom, don't post it on the net or in any social media. The original text seemed to have more "meat and potatoes" contained within the pages. This one seems to focus on what to post and not to post in social media. If you only read one of the two books, digital age or the original title, Id suggest reading the original. When the original text focuses on appropriate "snail mail" etiquette, the new version bears the same message substituting various "social media" for "letter" If you can make that mental substitution, just read the original text and you can get 90-95% of the New version's material from the original and maybe 20% more material that was cut for the digital edition.

Stick with the Original

Carnegie's original How to Win Friends and Influence people is one of the best books ever written. This book is just ok and really does not provide any significant insight that the original doesn't provide.

Modern take on an old Classic

For some reason, this updated version does not have the same appeal for me as the original. Yes, updated verbiage and examples are nice, but it's missing that special mannerism that was unique to Dale himself. It's not what you say, but how you say it. For that reason I give it a 3/5.

same stuff

Never got the point of this book. It repeated a lot of what you already have from Dale Carnegie. Wish I hadn't wasted the credit

Timeless but obvious lessons

Communication is important in any area of life and it is a good listen but if you read the orginal version no need to get this one. Some tings are too obvious even though they are timeless.

not a good follow up to the original book.

I recommend increasing the audio speed.

Useful information adapted from the classic. The narration is a bit slow, but thankfully, audible lets you increase the playback speed. I would still probably recommend the original over this version.

Generally Good.... except

It would be lovely to live in a world where there wasn't actual danger in assuming that other people are harboring only the very best of intentions. Unfortunately, we do not live in that world. Especially as women, assuming that people are good and honorable and trustworthy is a really poor idea, depending on the circumstances.
This is a "nice" book - it would be great if just genuinely being this nice and positive and well-meaning could be as beneficial and SAFE as it seems to have been for Mr. Carnegie. I will certainly use these techniques in situations where there's no observable reason NOT to, but they're simply not applicable across the board. Also, I have concerns about how this could easily make women look like doormats and also incredibly naive.
There are some great things to note about this version (I want to go back and read the original now), especially the points about how anything you say on the internet can live forever, and in this way, we need to be more intentional and careful with our words than previous generations.
So go ahead and read this - and then apply judiciously. Especially if you're a woman.

Good as a second reference

This is useful to listen to though personally, I find the original clearer, simpler and easier to follow so I would recommend listening to it first.

good learning, sloppy math

I've learnt a lot from this book and although the statistical analysis presented is sloppy at best, the points highlighted hold tremendous value. anyone who listens to this book, will change at least one thing in their personality. The narration, at times, unfairly influences the meaning of what others tried to say, making it important to have an objective and critical mindset when listening.

Read it or listen to it in the car! But do it!

This is more than a book, or audio track, it's a must for all serious business people, students of life, and self promotors. This 'book' is witty fast moving, concise and stuffed full of information to make your eyes water in delight. You will never be short of conversational ditties, or dinner over which to express your new found knowledge. Simply a great 'read', and listen. For those who missed the internet revolution or even the original book, here is a superb look into and out of an industry of promotion and the use of the new power of communication to get yourself heard, understood and listened to. Like 'Meetings with Remarkable Men' by Gurdjieff this book really is inspiring get it now, and enjoy.. you will!.

A fantastic revision

I loved the updating done in this book. The original was great but having the principles applied to today's world was phenomenal. A recommended listen.

Be Genuine and Conscientious.

This book demonstrates how to build relationships through a genuine interest in peoples’ values and goals. It encourages you to approach situations from the perspective of all parties and expand your mind to their viewpoints, it may open up new ways of serving and solving.

Basically correct but cheesy

I agree with the principles in this book - that certain types of behaviour are powerful influencers and are better at eliciting a positive response from others. If you've not read the original then this is worth a listen.

On the downside, the examples given are often cheesy. For some reason the author(s) seem to think Ronald Reagan is a great example of someone who does the right thing (this made me laugh out loud because of the sheer ignorance at what he did while in office), and there is big deal made about some baseball pitcher who didn't blame an umpire for a bad call. Also, the examples from people who attended Carnegie's lectures are often of the mould of "Everything was awful, then I did what Carnegie says, now everything is perfect".

The narration feels like Petkoff thinks he is talking to a dim child - it's a bit patronising and cheesy. It would be far better if he just read the book rather than trying to emote on the key points.

But anyway, on coming away from listening to this, my conclusion is that it is fundamentally correct and is worth knowing but the examples and delivery could be a lot better.

Worth the listen

Definitely one of the best versions taking into account today's digital challenges, modern day working styles and contestant evolving way of doing business. It is much more of a challenge today to inspire, influence and get the right motivational reactions from people around you. This will certainly open your eyes to practical things you can do today to impact your career and business tomorrow

Good book

What made the experience of listening to How to Win Friends and Influence People in the Digital Age the most enjoyable?

Good book, but the original one of Dale Carnegie had told almost everything, this one doesn't add very much in my opinion.

Revamped version falls short of the orginal<br />

Although containing several of the old anecdotes from the original and providing a new spin on making friends and influencing people in today's digital world, the book lacks the charm of the first and focuses heavily on managerial and employer skills, as oppose to employee/everyday life skills. Greater focus on the core skillset of connecting the with real people and winning them over is needed.

Boooooring

“Updated” for the digital age by someone that probably doesn’t have a smart-phone.
Tedious cliched anecdotes.
Name dropping.
Preachy.
USA self-absorbed.
Terrible outdated advice.
I would rather read the original.

Helping young minds stand out

My mate was raving about this book back when I lived in student accommodation so I decided to give it a shot, my expectations were skeptical but I gave the book the benefit of the doubt and was blown out of the water with new perspective.

Graduating from high school or uni gives us technical skills for what we want to do but it doesn’t give us the interaction skills used to communicate properly with the generation above us, the chapter about smiling really got me hooked, I tried this in my daily life- smiling at the right moments and opening my mind a little more and thinking in different ways to influence and befriend more people to be a better leader.

100% helped me pull out of some tough situations and look at my daily life a little differently and even helped me gain some confidence in talking to the world around me.

Worth the read/listen.

Really bad book. Not worth buying.

An all time time seller so I downloaded it to see what all the hype was about. Didnt learn a thing and everything may be relevant 30 years ago for the terribly inept, but not current or useful now. Save the dollars and dont download this dryly read and poorly executed repetitve book.
