In this unflinchingly honest documentary and memoir, comedian Josh Thomas asks the big question: how do I be gay? Irreverent but informative, Josh Thomas speaks to a party of hilarious and experienced queer storytellers as they share true tales and advice on how to be gay.

When I was a teenager trying to work out how to be gay I would ask google impossible questions. 'Am I gay?' 'How can I test if I’m gay?' 'If I’m gay do I have to do anal?' It didn’t work. Google is a cool place to go to ask questions that have answers, like 'Where can I get an iced oat latte?' But it isn’t a good place to go to look within. Now, I am a grown, fully-qualified homosexual and I am talking to other fully-qualified queers to answer the questions Google couldn’t.

Featuring: David Sedaris, Tig Notaro, Dan Savage, Tony Kushner, Titus Burgess, Joel Kim Booster, Katja Blichfeld, Cole Escole, Dewayne Perkins and Josh Thomas’ Mum.

After making his mark as an award-winning and hugely-successful stand-up comedian, Josh Thomas turned his hand to writing, acting and co-executive producing his own television show, inspired by his life and his comedy, Please Like Me. Josh is now based in LA where he has created and stars in Everything’s Gonna Be Okay.

For most queers there’s a really crappy period between working out they’re gay, and coming out, where we sort of have to live a lie. With Cole Escola, Dewayne Perkins, Tom Ballard, Kevin Whyte, Wade Davis, Katja Blichfeld, Tituss Burgess, Joel Kim Booster and Sophus Hell, a hot nerd who tells me about ancient Babylonian anal sex omens.

Dear Listener,

What am I excited for you to discover in this podcast?
"Heyyyyy babe heyyyyyy. Yassss. Yasssss.
I live near West Hollywood, where everything is so queer and fun and being queer is so fun. Sometimes, it can be easy to forget straight people even exist. I made this podcast because I’ve gotten so comfortable and cozy in my little queer corner of the world that being gay had started to feel pedestrian to me; it started to seem sort of—ordinary. And being gay isn’t ordinary at all—it’s challenging and weird and thrilling. For this podcast, I wanted to talk to a wide range of queer people and compare my experience with theirs. I don’t really talk that much in it because that isn’t the point—this podcast is supposed to be a chance to listen.
THANKS BB GURLLLLL. (gay mouth click thing) (gay mouth click thing)" – Josh Thomas, writer of How to Be Gay

Truly inspired work

I used to do this for a living and it doesn’t just “happen” say, as on thinks of having a baby, which is equally complex and mysterious.
Can’t say enough about the mastery in which the entire podcast comes together, including superb orchestration.
Give me more mister Thomas! I must have more!

Good content

I wasn't sure what to expect and found it a nice series that covers a range of topics that I think folks need to hear. The kids and relationship parts were especially enlightening.

Relatable and funny

Josh is so down to earth and honest about his life and I find that so engaging. I learned a lot too being a straight female over 50 with 3 grown children - I get him and I adore his ability to laugh at himself and his experiences. I loved Everything’s Gonna be Okay as well.

Great series!

I love Josh Thomas’ work. Please Like Me and Everything’s Going to Be Ok were really good shows and fun explorations of various portions of his real life. This series is a continuation of that spirit and his conversations with other queer folks about their experiences was refreshing. I heartily recommend it!

Worth a Listen

Nothing really new here, but entertaining. Josh, like a many podcasters not experienced with interviewing, comes off as very me-centric. Loved David Sederis
