Publisher's Summary

I'd never even kissed a boy the night I met Stone. The night I saw him kill. The night he spared my life. That was only the beginning.

He turns up in my car again and again, dangerous and full of raw power. "Drive," he tells me, and I have no choice. He's a criminal with burning green eyes, invading my life and my dreams.

The police say he's dangerously obsessed with me, but I'm the one who can't stop thinking about him.

Maybe, it's wrong to let him touch me. Maybe, it's wrong to touch him back. Maybe, these twisted dates need to stop. Except, he feels like the only real thing in my world of designer labels and mansions. So, I drive us under threat, until it's hard to remember I don't want to be there. Until it's too late to turn back...

Hostage is a dangerous stand-alone romance by The New York Times best-selling authors Skye Warren and Annika Martin. It's set in the same world as Prisoner, but can be listened to separately!

"Deliciously sexy, emotionally gripping...Hostage rocked my whole world." (Marni Mann, author of Prisoned)

"Fast paced and oh so addicting!" (Rachel Van Dyken, number one The New York Times best-selling author)

Narration matters

This was an awesome book. However I will read it next time. Why do authors think that they have to use both male and female narrators? This book would’ve gotten a perfect 5star rating if they had used just Jacob morgan. That guy can carry a book all on his own without a female narrator. Let’s talk about the female narrator. She ruined this book. She was so bad. She can’t do a male part. She wasn’t bad...she was horrible. Please authors if you read this review believe me when I say some narrators will destroy a great book. The writing was beautiful and awesome. I’m sad you used Lauren Sweet. Next time go totally with Jacob Morgan. Thank you for listening to my rant. I’m just so tired of bad narration. P.s. Jacob Morgan is the best of the best!!!!!!!

OH, WELL DONE LADIES👏.. & WRITE ME ANOTHER PLEASE

This is a dark gritty intricate tale of an innocent sixteen year old society Princess unhappy with the debilitating rules and bleak outlook of her life, who accidentally witnesses a bloody scene.. gets kidnapped and is very dramatically faced with death. And then, over a few further intense push ‘n pull back-and-forth short encounters with her sexy but cold kidnapper spanning two years, she gets caught up in, and consumed by, the magnetic misunderstood very bad-boy’s life of vengeance. Seeing beyond his tough, complex, badly broken, dark anti-hero exterior, finding out his chilling heartbreaking truths, loving his possessive loyal behaviour towards her.. and eventually rescuing him from himself and delivering peace.

Brooke and Stone were from two very different worlds.. Brooke was a sweet naive virgin, a dutiful daughter, had always been loved and had a privileged lifestyle. But Stone had been a throw-away child who’d been picked-up by sex traffickers, he’d spent his childhood in a dark dank basement along with his band of ‘brothers’.. all swearing fealty, freedom and revenge on every single one of their abusers. Now men in their early twenties, they're a loyal, vengeance-fuelled, supportive, mixed-skills band who live together for revenge.. with one abuser killing leading to the next.. and to clues that hopefully will ultimately lead them to the lofty ringleaders of the corrupt high-powered paedophilic group. However, as the days, weeks and months pass with only brief meetings with Brooke, Stone’s obsession with her unlocks and awakens new feelings.. unwanted feelings.. feelings that will pitch brother against brother.. feelings that will distract.. but feelings that will bring great rewards too if he’d only open his once-dead heart and allow them to grow. And Brooke’s infatuation for the mysterious villain grows stronger, deeper, darker and more highly charged because the good girl wanted the Prince she’d glimpsed behind the hard shell of the monster.. and she wanted justice her way.

Worth a credit? Well, I initially thought damn it was going to be a no when I heard the heroine was a sweet sixteen yr old virgin living at home.. and the moody hero was twenty-six. However I carried on because the suspenseful story was just so gripping, intriguing, dark, raw, dramatic, dangerous, addictive, different and was fuelled by combustible chemistry. And I easily got caught-up in the angsty romance, the well-written layered edgy storyline, the well-planned thrills and chills, the well-placed sex scenes, the character growth, the redemption and, of course, the sworn sweet revenge. So yes, IMO, creditworthy. The dual POV narration by Jacob Morgan was a five star stunning performance.. and Lauren Sweet’s was a pretty-good four.

Amazing narration

After listening to the first book in the series I was excited to jump right into this one, thinking that it picked up where book one ended. But this book focuses more on Stone and I was a little confused about the timeline for the first few chapters. Things become clear pretty quick and I realized that Stone's story is running parallel to Greyson's and then catches up to where we left off. I thought that this book did a great job tying up all of the loose ends from book 1 as well as finding Stone his HEA.
Both narrators did an incredible job (I could listen to Jacob Morgan all day) bring the characters to life.

I’m not sure about this story?

I read this book because I really enjoyed book 1....but this book is just off to me. Like the age of the female character! Why so young?? I’m not even half way through the book and I’m not sure I can make it through the whole book.

Sacrificial Lamb

Hostage (Criminals & Captives, Book 2) is a psychological mysterious thriller told in dual pov. I actually loved this one even more than book one and I absolutely loved book one. I wish their would be more books written. Dark sliver, criminal activity,
kidnapping, murder, spanning over years of time, mysterious person known as "keeper", all encompassing a addictive storyline plot. Character's are remarkable., making it so I wish their would be more books written about the other supporting character's. The intricately weaved plot twists are spine-tingling. I absolutely loved the epilogue.

Jacob Morgan, Lauren Sweet's dual naration was perfect. Absolutely loved it. Jacob Morgan's inflection is intoxicating..
Lauren is good to. You get the feel like you are watching their lives play out right in front of you. Jacob Morgan has a ability to pull you in and hypnotize you to not be able to put the audio on pause. Jacob Morgan tower's above and takes the stage.

Absolutely love the narrative and naration.

Good, but not stellar. Performance saves the day.

I don't know where to begin with this story. As a mother, the premise of a vigilante that continually "kidnaps" my daughter is disturbing. Since I read to escape reality, I put this aside. The story overall was unique. At times the story and plot were unbelievable. I applaud that the author chose to address the horror of sex slaves and child abuse, however, I found that the character development was lacking. The performance/narration saved the story. Skye Warren is a good, solid writer, however this story just was not my favorite.

I may have struggled with the age of the female lead, gave me pause for a good half the book.

Great narration

Great story and great narration. I only wished I had listened to the 1st book Prisoner first. But I realized too late that this was the 2nd book. It still was a good story.

Standing Ovations!!!

Annika Martin and Skye Warren did it again with Hostage. I couldn't believe that they could do it, and it was BETTER. HOTTER. A THRILL RUSH. ELECTRIFYING. A phenomenal writing team. I would love to see them pair up again, just to get the high off of what they could do with a third book.

Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet paired up again with the narration. And of course, the two blew it out the water once more. They were like dynamite, with the blast being felt across the world.

I strongly recommend Hostage and I wish I could give it more than 5-🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for the novel and narrators.

This story drew me in from the beginning and didn’t let me go. It is so captivating there is no way around it. The suspense. The danger. The taboo. It is all amazing.

I love a dark romance

I loved, loved, loved this audiobook. If I could give a book more than 5 stars, this would be it. The second in the series, and just so you know, book 1 was equally as good. Both books can be read as standalones, time wise they run alongside each other somewhat. When Brooke witnesses Stone brutally attacking an associate of her father at her 16th birthday party, Stone is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure she isn’t able to identify him. What he doesn’t expect is to develop feelings for his hostage. Brooke is sweet, innocent and desperate for love, but with a family only interested in social standing, she doesn’t particularly get the love and attention she craves. Don’t get me wrong, her parents love her, they just want her to be something she’s not. After she is taken by Stone, who she fears, but is unmistakably drawn to, she finds in him, someone she can depend on and trust. A brilliant story, continuing and concluding the drama from Prisoner. Great writing and characters, the narration was spot on, I just love Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet and they nailed the characters perfectly. As a side note, I didn’t particularly like Stone in book 1 (he was cruel to Abby), he did however redeem himself in book 2 (he was so sweet with Brooke). Highly recommend.

Stone & Brooke

If you could pick the perfect kind of listen for me, this would be it. Skye Warren and Annika Martin's collaborative series has me riveted to my ears, listening to this book. This story features Stone, one of the older boys in our Criminals and Captives series. When I started this listen, I figured it was going to be the typical bad guy captures girl and with a little Stockholm Syndrome, we would have the story. Boy was I wrong. Stone is a very complex man. Experiencing his childhood, what he endured, what he took on as his responsibility would mess anyone up. But somehow, this young man has a tender spot, and Brooke is the one that finds it. A chance meeting I would call it finds these two together, and from that point on, a slight obsession/loving relationship is formed over several years. The story behind them, and how it evolves is a masterpiece of thrilling suspense and had me up listening to the very end. I loved every minute of this story, it's depth, it characters, and the captivating tension all led me through and kept me on the edge. I just hope we see more by these two!

Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet are suited perfectly for this story. Morgan has an edginess for book like this, a little dark and a lot of suspense and his voice seems to meld to the characters. Sweet's young sound as Brooke made her. She brought the innocence out, but kept her real. I loved this team and this listen.

Another great book by two great writers!!!!

Stone and Brooke.. they are complete opposites. She is a rich socialite who witnesses a crime on her sixteenth birthday. Her parents use her as an extension of their waning wealth to hopefully spark business. He is a man who has led a very difficult life and is hard and driven by revenge. He is the one who commits the crime she sees. He takes her because she saw.

What follows is an engaging story of what happened to him, what her life is like, and his obsession with her (and hers with him). It will keep you in your toes! It is Skye Warren / Annika Martin at their bests!!!

The narrating team of Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet was a perfect choice! I like both voices and they fit the characters extremely well.

Little Bird

Hostage by Skye Warren and Annika Martin is dark romance at its best. I loved Stone's nickname for Brooke of Little Bird. The authors were great building a story that spanned years. There is much more to the story than Vengeance, Revenge, Hope, Love, Healing, and Redemption. The imagery was incredible. Both Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet were great bringing the characters to life. I could sense their age differences of the characters portrayed, which added to the story. I loved it! Thank you Audiobook Obsession for recommending this great listen.

<3 "He’s dark, she’s light" <3

They saying is a total cliché for a reason… good girls love bad boys, now make that a broken bad boy and I almost can’t handle it! That’s what we have here, Stone is completely, well, stone, he’s hardened himself and is closed off. He doesn’t trust people. However, there’s something about Brooke. She ended up being in the wrong place and the wrong time, she saw too much so now she needs to be taken care of. But Stone can’t seem to take care of this particular problem. They have a magnetic pull and can’t fight the attraction. They come from two different universes.

He’s dark, she’s light, and together they are everything.

Man, Skye Warren and Annika Martin rocked me! I need them working together constantly! They create this perfect story that is so dark and cold! It’s a complete wild ride! Such a pure and gritty book… I felt myself fallen for the broken bad boy as well. He was unapologetically himself and I can respect that. I loved how Brooke and Stone ended up leaning on each other and needing the other. Being the person you are, no matter how good or how bad is what we should be able to be, especially with the person we love.

These narrators were beyond what I expected from this audio! I loved them! They were fabulous as Brooke and Stone <3

Different captivity story

Narration Jacob Morgan 5 ★
Narration Lauren Sweet 3 ★
Story: 5 ★
Execution: 3 ★

I was debating giving this 3 or 4 stars, but due the enjoyment I got out of it, it was 4 stars. I confess I was dubious when I first started my listening, I didn't understand much by the blurb and didn't want to aventure through the reviews to find a better resume/blurb so I went blind.

I read my fair share of hostage, captivity, kidnapping stories and the most are not very well done. So I'm really happy to find this gem. Their relationship progressed really slow, in a almost 3 years window. There is insta-lust, yes, but it's well done and Stone's insta-lust did not interfere with his judgment, not in a romantic way at least. I'm glad Brook did not fall in love at first sight, she saw him killing a man and she was terrifying, she didn't even look at his bulging biceps. What I'm trying to say is: this was a believable kidnapping story.

He didn't kept her prisoner either, another thing I thought different and well done. After the second kidnapping, the feelings starting to get in the way. I also like the emotion connection they share and the steamy scenes were HOT AF.

Ah, another thing it caught my attention was the way Brook dealt when someone close to her happened to be a bad person. I usually see the MC completely ignoring their bond or the life they share with the person, when they discovered this person is actually a criminal or something. You can't just turn off a switch and stop loving someone because they suddenly are bad, unfortunately. And she didn't, she didn't want to believe, but she also couldn't stop caring.

My main problem with the book was the repetitiveness. Specially in Brook chapter's. The inner monologue and her thinking every few sentences annoyed the h*ll out of me. Specially during action scenes, it was like 1 sentence speaking, 1 paragraph describing what she is feeling, 1 paragraph describing what she is thinking, 1 paragraph thinking she shouldn't be thinking about it, 1 sentence speaking, etc. It cut off my excitement in half, I was getting frustrated by the 70% mark and thinking about skipping to the end. I just skimmed instead.

I have forgotten how much I liked Jacob Morgan's narration. First of all, his voice is incredible. It's deep, soothing and sexy. His intonation and emotions are spot on, you can feel the emotions his charterers are feeling in that moment, their happiness and frustrations. I can't say the same for Lauren Sweet, unfortunately. Her voice is really, really nasal. I did not like it, at all. And the way she narrated made me feel like the h was annoying, but it was just her way of talking. The male voices was not good too, Stone always seemed realle angry when she was narrating, but calm when Jacob Morgan took over.

An Excellent Dark Romance

Hostage is a brilliantly composed captor/captive romance. The storyline has darker elements, it's intense, entertaining, and very steamy. Skye Warren and Annika Martin, have written an engaging story with captivating characters; I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

The duel narration by Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet is outstanding. They honed in on each character, portraying their personalities, bringing them to life. I adored their performances.

Overall, Criminals & Captives is a well-plotted and well-written series, with exceptional character development, and I highly recommend it.
