Publisher's Summary

It’s been a long hard ride for Morgan and everyone. Just when things were starting to look up, the park was attacked, and they lost Bobbie. Danny’s physical wounds were nothing like the emotional loss of Bobbie. It was hard on Mel as well, and the rest of the group also felt the loss. With the attacks on the community becoming a greater threat, they must be dealt with. These attacks must end. But what can the group do against an army with artillery?

It’s been almost a year since "The Day", and Morgan is worried about his parents. It’s something that has been on his mind, often hidden or buried under the daily burden of his new reality. That worry is getting harder to ignore, and something is going to have to be done, so he can know, one way or another.

Even with all the life-threatening issues, life must go on. The daily requirements of feeding everyone and dealing with the innumerable challenges that crop up must be addressed. And there’s Fred’s pregnancy. While a blessing, it presents serious risks to her. Morning sickness is the least of her concerns. The only easy day in this new world is yesterday.

Not quite

I really liked this series. I liked Duke Fontaine's narration and up until this book, the series just kept getting better. Don't get me wrong this series is Very good. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a mini series of it (Netflix?). But for me this book was like heading to a real nice restaurant with great atmosphere, and then having them start turning off the lights and closing down halfway through the meal. No time to savor it, have a coffee and just digest it. It almost seemed like the author just wanted to end it. People and situations appeared to spring up to set up additional chapters (or books) never to be mentioned again. So it just left me feeling flat. The good thing is that by the time you get to this point you have already become attached to the characters and are relieved they survived. A.American did a good job of Keeping me concerned about whether or not some of my favorites would make it. A couple didn't. Could have wrapped things up nice and neat with a good epilogue. All that said, I would absolutely recommend the series. First book was a little rough around the edges but it just got better from there. So I will end with I LOVED it!

There is something bothering me

I like The Going Home Series, it's informative, funny and sad.....there is something for everyone. After the 3rd time listening to Book 10, the light bulb came on. I don't like the main character, Morgan. Other than going around exclaiming "what the hell", rubbing Mel's butt, volunteering others to work, or announcing he's tired, Morgan doesn't do much. Morgan is quick to talk about people helping themselves, but if it wasn't for Sarge, Mike and Ted, there wouldn't be a semblance of safety, if it wasn't for Cecil their community would not have food, if it wasn't for the military Morgan and the rest of them wouldn't have the luxury of flour and other food stores the military provided. If it wasn't for Thad, they wouldn't have a healthy growing garden or healthy pigs, yet Morgan makes a deal to trade pigs without first consulting Thad. It is because of others that Morgan and his family are doing ok. Also, it appears that Morgan will only share with those that he can benefit from, I have yet to see Morgan roll up his sleeve and do any of the heavy lifting in his community/town. The real solid characters in this series are Thad, Sarge, Mike, Ted, Dalton and the National Guard who Morgan treats as his personal security. Speaking of the NG, when is Sarge going to start making them a priority? After all he is their commander and they are now his responsibility. I hope the next book focuses on more on the community and those that are truly doing all the work in order to survive and grow. Lastly, please take Mel off her high horse, she needs to help Kay....when has she ever cleaned the dishes and wiped down the tables, etc...???? Mel heads home as soon as she and her family are done eating. Again, I like the series and I would recommend the series to others, because the people I mentioned above are the ones who make the story worthwhile.

Turned unrealistic

Jesus man. Such garbage this series has become. Look I don't care that you write about a stupid family community... just don't make it the biggest part of the story when Russians are flying attack helicopters around your stomping ground. And that gaggle duck attack on a Russian FOB? No modern military would lose an asset like that without a counter assault from a support base! The Writing on this is terrible! On what planet does one have time to leave then come back the next day to pick through the spoils of war. In real life an entire battalion would have moved in to reoccupy and investigate wtf happen last night, then Morgan would show up with all the working vehicles they had to get ambushed. This Russian/Cuban alliance reeks of a red dawn copy...

Another of the same

I continue to be hooked by this series, but continue to be let down by not having much of a plot. The author built a great story with great characters, but not a whole lot going on in the story. I hope this is the last one unless the author plans on making a new twist or something.

Completely Disappointed

Seemed like a lazy attempt at closing out the series. Seriously, the entire Russian invasion force in Florida wiped out by a few bombers? It was just “Billy’s” camp 2..0 with less detail. Why spend so much time on the Russian Col. if that sub plot wasn’t going to go anywhere? Many of the previous sub plots in other books were never even touch on in this book. I loved this series, but do feel A. American let his readers down on this one. Easily the worst book of the series!

Eh.

The series has progressively gotten boring. The apex of this book is the beginning, the rest is filler.

Oz

Out of the ten books in this series to date, this ranks last. Too many lulls in the action and like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, at the end, I was waiting for Morgan to wake up and realize it was a dream. Sadly, it's not.

Felt rushed

I have listened to all the other Survivalist books and not been disappointed, Duke Fontaine is the perfect narrator for the stories. I felt as if this was a rushed ending to the series (I presume it is the last one), although nice in its own way it was a far cry from the other books and felt as if there was more packed in but less detail. However saying this it was still a good listen and I will not be returning it. Maybe if I listen to all 10 books in succession then it will feel as if it flows better. In fact I think I will do that right now.

one of the best series I've ever read

this book was as captivating as all the rest. none stop and couldn't out it down. Even when there was no action going on, you become so attached to the characters you just enjoy the journey. However, I have to say in the last 4 books I've been thinking, that the main character has been sounding smug and arrogant, always seeming to kniw stuff others don't and sickly how much they all admire him for knowing stuff that just all sounds a little unrealistic. like no one else knows nothing and he just happens to know everything. a little far fetched and has made me dislike the character a bit. He is like some big hero with even the sarj kissing his backside, also out of character when actually he hasn't done anything that other haven't done so how'd he get to be this big legend? He's no better than the other soldiers in fact he ain't as good and has t done any where near what they have done. I've started mumbling SMUG GIT when he says stuff now. However still give this 10 out of 10 and love this series it never gets boring.

Great sorry thus far but starting to run out.

really enjoyed the series thus far and eagerly await new installments but starting to think the plot has been b wretched as far as it can go. The episodes are getting shorter with less major happening and plot is starting to edge close to repeating itself with only cosmetic changes.

Fantastic

Better than Hollywood, I was so worried about the people in the book but this book has brought it all home , you can’t miss it and one will sleep well at night after listening to this book. A masterpiece with a beautiful ending finally can’t wait for the next book if it ever happens, kind of makes me want to go to work tomorrow.

One of my all time favourites

Morgan, Sarge (colonel), Thad, Danny and the crew are back. You better not make this the last of the series. I’ve really grown to like this lot of folks. More please. Thanks from Australia
