Publisher's Summary

Homicide cop Troy Bennett had a reputation with the Chicago PD for being fearless and in control - until the night his daredevil partner is killed during a raid. From that moment on, he swears he'll never again be responsible for the loss of a loved one. To escape his demons, Troy transfers to the NYPD, bringing him up close and personal with Ruby Elliott, a beautiful, street-savvy pool hustler. Reckless and stubbornly independent, Ruby embodies everything Troy's avoiding, but when she walks into the pub he's at with his new coworkers and blows his carefully laid plans to hell, Troy knows he has to have her - risks be damned. But there's a connection between Ruby's shadowed past and a case Troy's working involving a notorious Brooklyn felon, throwing her safety into jeopardy. Confronted with his biggest fear, will Troy push Ruby away to keep her safe or fight to keep her in his arms where she belongs?

Loved the book, not the voice

I am a huge fan of Tessa Bailey and I loved this book! Sweet story with suspenseful moments. I was not a fan of the narrator. Narrator's voice was older, extremely nasal, and she seemed to run out of breath. I feel bad for Tessa because the narrator didn't do her book justice.

Not too bad for ridiculously short novel!

For as short as this book was, I was surprised that it seemed fairly complete. Of course, it was insta-love, how could it not be? With that being said, I like the characters, they were different and interesting. The sex is pretty dirty, especially the sexy talk. The Hero is definitely an alpha, dominate lover but, not like serious Dom. There is a caning scene, so if that sort of thing offends you, you might want to skip this book or be prepared to fast forward. ( he uses a pool stick not an actual cane)
Was this credit worthy? Absolutely not! It’s way too short to waste a precious credit but, if you caught it on sale, it wouldn’t be a horrible buy. Luckily, this was included in the Escape/Romance package, so I was able to listen as part of my monthly subscription.

Too similar to the first book

The book was basically a repeat of the same story from the first book just in a different location. A “tough potty mouthed” cop saves the girl from “her wretched past he doesn’t approve of.” The author seems to think a man who exhibits jealous semi-stalkerish tendencies after knowing a girl one day is romantic and sexy. I don’t agree with that so I have huge issues with the book. The heroine is portrayed as strong and independent which seems to be a problem for the alpha-male cop. I almost didn’t finish this one. I have the rest of the ones in the series but it will be awhile before I step back into this world. The narrator was okay and I didn’t have any issues with their work.

Good Storyline with a balanced action/anxiety!

Too many stories lean heavily on angst and anxiety to fill page space in a story. The author balanced the storyline well and provided context for the anxiety in this story. The physical aspect of the story didn't overwhelm the key elements nor did it come off as unrealistic (a little more kink than some might care for but not pushy or snooty).

Definitely worth a read/listen!

So hot!!!

Tessa Bailey can really write a hot hero! I'm swooning. I thought I'd feel like something as missing with no Male voice, but this narrator does a great job. I can't wait to hear more.

Loved this story by Tessa Bailey!

What did you love best about His Risk to Take?

I really enjoyed the story, the characters of Troy and Ruby and the camaraderie between Troy and his fellow police officers.

What other book might you compare His Risk to Take to and why?

It's a great addition to the Line of Duty series.

Have you listened to any of Alice Chapman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first audiobook by Alice Chapman. Although at times it sounded a bit like she was talking through clenched teeth, I got used to her voice and I liked the distinction between the male and female characters.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to listening to more of Alice's narrations of Tessa's books.
