The narration brings this book to life and inflect so much emotion to the story. My only issue with the narration is the accent does change subtly from time to time. Overall, it’s a great listen

Amazing listening experience

This book is so good and this audio version is absolute perfection!! I loved this dark twisted story that is Sully and Malik. But hearing Harley Chase bring them to life was amazing. He did such an incredible job with Sully.

Sully and Malik have a long dark story to share. So please check your content and trigger warnings before reading. If you are okay with them, then buckle up because Courtney delivers one dark, slow burn story. I mean, we are in the world of assassins for hire. This book is darker and stays dark the entire time.

I knew from the moment we met Sully in book 1 His Death Bringer that I definitely needed his story. This is not filled with super sweet, cute moments. It is dark, filled with pain and suffering for both characters, and is a hard fought HEA. This is a slow burn, but we meet Sully when he is 12 yrs old. Their relationship goes through several stages, and the time that passes during the story is needed. Malik feels responsible for things that happen to Sully and tries to do what he thinks is right for him. We get to see what makes Sully into the person he is, and it will break your heart. Malik doesn't have it easy before he comes to be involved in Sullys life. Not only does he keep punishing himself for past events, but he also denies himself any type of happiness. Sully, with his possessive, protective, and obsessive ways, pushes Malik until he gives in and becomes his. Seeing Sully working to understand and finding a way to express how he feels about Malik is amazing.

Courtney does a great job with their relationship. It is definitely not something that works for everyone. She does a brilliant job showing that love can be felt and expressed in many ways. But I loved seeing them find what was best for them.

Very Dark Romance

I’m going to call this assassin’s in love. They are both ruthless in their own ways, even to each other. Definitely check triggers before reading/listening.

harley chase works his magic again

reading his bane, it was VERY clear that sully was going to be one of those characters that would need to be narrated *just right*. the narration for him specifically was most definitely going to make or break this book. overplay sully’s psychopathic character traits, and you turn him into a
caricature. underplay them and everything courtney’s written loses its spine. lucky for the listener, harley and courtney are audiobook soulmates. she gives him the characters with full faith that he’s going to treat them well. and he takes the characters and brings them to life with this innate understanding of their inner workings. and what harley does here with sully is truly chilling. he perfectly captures everything about sully’s baleful nature, but also the ridiculous golden retriever parts of him that are a different flavor of crazy from the knife-wielding ones. everything about this book was masterfully done, but with courtney and harley at the helm, i expected nothing less than perfection

Okay, I’ve read the other books in this series, and getting Sally’s story to fill in the blanks was amazing. I love him as a character and Harley did a fantastic job bringing both Sully and Malik to life!
