Romance, Murder and Flint River

This story was well thought out, full of excitement from the beginning and full of unforeseen twists and turns. This was my first Flint River story but I caught up with who was who and wished I had read more of the Flint River stories. The main characters were feisty, big hearted and no strangers to murder and mayhem. Jodi Burnett is a brilliant author who makes her stories flow with heart stopping scenes and makes her readers minds work overtime working out who the killer is. I loved the red herrings she uses.

Great change of pace

After listening to number 1 in the Flint River series, I was chomping at the bit for number 2.
This book is about Tonya - the girl who told the assailant in book 1 where Joselyn was.
It is easier to relate to Tonya in this book. You almost feel sorry for her.
But her villainous ways are still hard to overlook- if you’ve read/listened to the first book.
When Tonya picks up a hitchhiker, she knows nothing of his true past and his objective.
Trent’s interest in Tonya reappears - which I find amusing and sad- when the new hitchhiker becomes more prevalent in her life.
The start of book has us following “Robert” through a bank robbbery he and his buddies pulled off. Well the buddies didn’t get away. But Robert did with most of he money.
Listen/read what happens next.
Will Tonya get scammed, injured or even killed by associating with “Robert”?
Or will Trent convince her to drop the loser with no car/home to shoe for?
Only one way to find out!

An amazing work from an amazing author!

Hidden In The Hills (Flint River Series Book 2), my seventeenth read from author Jodi Burnett, who is one of my favorite authors. As I wait for the next book in her current series I've gone back to an earlier series I hadn't yet read. I downloaded this 8-hour 11-minute/297-page read at 7:55 this morning and immediately started reading it., It caught my attention in the opening pages & I never put it down until completed at 12:25, I have to admit to speeding up the playback while listening. A Jodi Burnett book is like a visit from an old friend. "I was given an Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more in this series with Danger In The Hills (Flint River Series Book 3) next on my TBR list, and look forward to SPEC OPS K9 (Tin Star K9 Series Book 8) when it's published in October of 2024. If you like Julie Garwood's suspense works you'll LOVE Jodi Burnett! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Loved this high suspense thriller!

Jodi has done it again keeping us on the edge of our seat. Her character development is excellent. The plot twists got me good. I love how she continues to develop Flint River as a town and community. This thrilling criminal suspense had me finishing the book in one day. I love every one of her books!

Loved it

A fantastic story. The perfect blend of mystery & intrigue. This story just took off running & I flew through the pages. I found it to be very well written with some great characters.
Tonya thought she & Trent were on the mend but when she is proved wrong, circumstances force her in the wrong direction. She has car trouble and a mysterious hitch hiker helps her out. In turn she gives him a ride and the connection is made. She starts down a dangerous road trying to encourage feelings for the stranger to help her get over Trent. Trent wants nothing to do with her so he says after she failed to warn Jocelyn of her stalker. Trent notices that since the stranger showed up, a bunch of petty thefys have been occurring. Now Trent is worried about Tonya and her new love interest because Trent believes there is more to this stranger than meets the eye.

Highly entertaining adventure in Flint River

When I finished listening to the first book in the Flint River series I wondered where Jodi Barnett was going to go with this series. Having listened to her Tin Star and Dirk Sterling series, Run for the Hills was such a departure from what I was used to it gave me pause to wonder how the Flint River series might progress. Hidden in the Hills the second Flint River book answered my questions and fully hooked me on the series. This book has some off and on romance, a criminal, and plenty of interactions between the members of the Strong family. I have to say listening to this book was an addicting experience. Based on the first book I figure I had several elements figures out all the way until my prediction fell apart. I can honestly say while I’ve enjoyed both of the aforementioned series, Flint River is my favorite, the way Jodi describes the town, and its population takes me back to my childhood growing up in a small town in the Colorado Plaines. Once again Nick Cracknell takes an excellent story and elevates it through his variety of voices and delivery techniques.

What really matters

This is the first audio book by this author I have listened to. I am so accustomed to her books dealing with several of the main characters working in law enforcement, that I found the pace of this book somewhat slower. The small town characters and plot were still good, and there was a major plot twist, I didn’t see coming. I had no problem following or understanding the reader.

Relationships Are Never Easy

I enjoyed book two of the "Flint River Series" even more than the first book. Tonya and Trent have had a tumultuous relationship for years, and Tonya has decided that she wanted to move on. Tonya Anderson picked up a handsome stranger, who was hitch-hiking in the mountains. Trent Stone doesn't trust the stranger. I enjoyed this story. I liked the mystery which encompassed the unknown hitchhiker, and the way his story was slowly revealed. There were some moments where the story had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen. Nick Cracknell's narration was good, and his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review which included my opinions.

Disliked main characters

I’m so sorry, I received this free arc, I really wanted to like and enjoy this story, but I couldn’t get past the dislike that I had for the whining and sometimes juvenile behavior of the main characters. I couldn’t even finish the book.
